      2011 Passenger cabin filter placement

Yet another wonderful trip to the Chev dealership today. I needed to replace the CAF now that I am using AC more... it makes the mildew smell while running. Since I have replaced these in a number of vehicles before I went up to the Parts counter and of course they recognize me because I am there $o much. They look up the VIN and sell me a square filter.. makes sense so far. Get home drop the glove box and begin to look around for a replacement assembly .....not there... I resort to google and a video that shows it sliding out on a tray with ease. Well not for the 2011 I guess. No in fact the square bod that SHOULD house a air filter is in fact when split by unscrewing the top and bottom is the AC CONDENSER. I button it all up and make sure it is blowing cold again.. it is and proceed up to ask about another placement or at least a clue. Well they tell me if I would like to check it in they will install it for me at a discounted rate of $ 60.00 plus filter. They tell me I may have the wrong filter so they will use there part # to get the right one..........when will this madness end? Tires, locks, clocks, lights and keys..... it's not even 4 years old????? Can anyone help me please????

My 2010 WITHOUT A/C does not have a filter. Google the pics and location. If there is no opening where the others have one, you don't I guess. 2011's may not. I have a 2011 Silverado, and they actually did away with them for my year, where as a couple years older had filters. Too many people neglect them, and end up burning out the fans.

It's the same filter for "all" Chevy Aveos for all years. But if your specific car doesn't take one, then you don't need one. I'm surprised that it didn't come up on his computer with the VIN, but who knows.

You could always do what 2010AveoLT did in the link in my first response. Or if you got good access to the A/C condensor, you could always hit that with a bunch of Lysol, or specific spray for this exact issue. I've also heard to make sure the a/c drain isn't plugged.
