AC recharge, compatible kits? 2005 Aveo

Okay, so I have gone through a diagnosis of my broken AC system (blowing hot air), the green light is ON when I turn the AC function on. So I went through the electrical system, its getting the necessary power and the clutch engages when I wire it directly by using wire instead of using the factory relay.

So, I know I need to recharge this system, but I need to know of compatible kits, I was at my auto parts store (partsource, I'm in canada) and they don't have a compatible one, or so they say.

I'm just wondering if I can get any answers from people who've used a kit on their aveo and know it works for sure.

      Thank you!

Well they all use 134a (that I know of) so I don't know what is different about yours. 134a is still the dominant Freon here in the states if not the only one left?

My Aveo is a 2005 Hatchback and it uses 134a. There should be a sticker on either the hood or on the radiator support frame that tells you what it uses if you need to confirm this. It will also tell you how many ounces it uses and what type of compressor oil to use as well. Now unless someone had the need to convert the existing 134a to R12 then that's a different story. Not sure why would someone do that. Reason why I say that is I live a hop and a skip away form Mexico. It's so close that it's a 20 min drive in my Aveo. I've seen shops in Mexico that will do that. But honestly you really should have 134a in your car. I hope this helps.

i would try ac pro, I have a 99 dodge durango and i used ac pro on it, i also checked the pressure in the aveo using the ac pro can and gauge. just doing a quick google search brought me to canadian tire's website and they seem to sell a 134a kit for aveo

You can recharge it, but there is a leak in the system. That is how it lost its charge in the first place. You really need to find the leak, fix it, vacuum the system, then recharge it.

If you do charge, note how long it takes for it to quit working. If you do suspect a leak, then make sure you have a recharge with dye so you can find the leak with a UV light.
Please do not power off, firmware update pending.....

That clutch relay is good , isn't it .

I also recommend the UV die & UV lite .

Bite the bullet and buy a real set of hoses & gauges . Even if it is the cheap harbor freight set . Check to see what the static pressure is . As long as you do have some pressure in the system , you do not have to vacuum it down .

Add the recommended number of ounces of R134 A . Go ahead and add the UV dye . Use rubbing alcohol to clean off any dye that gets on the OUTSIDE of the system .

The low pressure switch may keep the compressor clutch from kicking on untill you manage to get some refrigerant into the system .

Make sure the radiator fan is coming on , when you turn on the A/C .

If you have a cabin air filter , check it and replace it if it is dirty .

      God bless
      Wyr
