      Question Adding Air Conditioning.

my 2011 chevy aveo was 1 of the few that were sold without air conditioning. the dealer stated that it would be about 1300 dollars to have air conditioning added. My question is would it be more cost beneficial to myself to buy the pieces individually and have them installed and then have it charged, or just pay the dealer the 1300 dollars and have them do it.

thank you for all the advice.

i pieced mine together, and the dealership programmed it for free, with the charging and everything it cost me less than $500.

i think i would consider the 1300 if i was going to pay for a mechanic to install it anyway, the saving might not outway th fact that the dealer install is covered under the factory warranty.

$1300 is not bad if you don't have the tools and capability to install it yourself. As rabbit mentioned, dealer install with new parts would have the benefit of a full warranty. No matter what you do, it will need to go to a shop with a Tech2 to activate it after it is charged.

I understand what your saying, but that potential 700 dollar difference is hard to swallow a bit.

its only a $700 difference IF you do it all yourself, and piece it together over time. You are not one stop shopping at that price.

I also didnt have to the the $100 + to have it turned on as my dealership did it free.. And i didnt pay to charge the system either.

I thought you must've had some kind of connection to do it for $500, rabbit. I've got a decent relationship with the parts department at my local dealer and got the parts (that I bought new) at garage price, but I still paid more than $500 bucks in parts alone.

i THINK, i have the ability to put it together,
but i dont think i have the ability to collect the parts in decent price

and i have the ability to enjoy the a/c

and i have half the ability to pay for the extra fuel it cost for a/c
