Any help would be greatly appreciated

I took my 07 Aveo Sedan to a local mechanic and he supposedly checked everything. He changed out my bearings, valve gasket cover, spark plugs and wires, vacuum hoses, and tightened the bolts on my flywheel. I am still having a loud knocking sound that appears to be coming from my lower, driver's side by my engine. It does not appear to go away while I am driving, goes off immediately when I turn the engine off, and is it's loudest at idle. Other than the noise the car drives like a dream. I can not ask the mechanic because he had personal issues right before I picked up the car. Please give me some ideas. Thanks

I would recommend popping the hood and taking a look around to see where the noise is coming from.

I tried and I can't exactly pinpoint it. Before he began the work the mechanic suggested I may need a new torque converter or flywheel. The noise does not sound like its coming from that area and I dont seem to have the symptoms noted online, but I am far from a mechanical expert

Does the knocking sound increase in frequency with engine RPM, or vehicle speed?

Have you tried checking the timing belt?

I did check the timing belt and it seems ok. The sound does sound like it goes away or reduces as I am accelerating. I had someone tell me that it is my flywheel but I am not seeing any of the symptoms, i.e. gear slipping, that I see online.
