any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
while my Girlfriend was out driving my car, some old man in a huge land yacht blew through a red light and tore the front end off my car. i had to call his insurance company to figure out what was going on, and when i finally got a phone call from them, it was actually from an auto auction facility. apparently insurance companies haul your car off to an auction where they have an appraiser look at your car?? it doesnt sound good. they explained to me how the process works and it doesnt even sound legal. first off, let me establish they already admitted he was completely to blame. with that said, they are going to take the value of the car, and subtract that from what i owe GMAC. if the remainder excedes what i owe GMAC, then im written a check for that amount. and if it doesnt, then i have to pay the balance off. we all know our cars arent worth that much. it doesnt even sound legal that i have to continue to pay for a car i dont even own, because of someone elses negligence. correct me if im wrong, but shouldnt they have to cut me a check for the cars value, then pay off my balance to GMAC? i owe GMAC $6,000, and i just know they wont say the car was worth anything near so much as 5K. this leaves me very pissed. this all happened right after i got the body kit, rims, lowering springs, projectors, altezza's, and cold air intake on too.

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
The insurance company can do that. They base your insurance on what kind of car you have and how old it is, and unless you have GAP coverage, they'll only pay you what it is worth.
You might be able to take the other driver to small claims court though to make up for any extra that you might owe GMAC. I doubt it would work, but it might.
You can always look up on http://www.kbb.com/ what the retail value of your car is. Chances are it is around $6000 or so. Depends on miles, condition, options, etc. And if your insurance company quotes it lower than what the website states, you can always argue it with that as your source.

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
Do you still have the receipts for the stuff you just bought and put on. They need to consider that too... at least in my state.

Damn dude, that's messed up. I'm sorry to hear it. Now you should get an 09' like mine lol.

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
How is what you owe on the car the insurance companies problem? They are there to make you whole, not make you whole and kick down extra. If that was the case we would all be upside down since all we have to do is have an 'accident' and the car will be fully paid off. They will give you what the car is worth, make sure you not only check kbb but also the local newspaper and autotrader as it could be worth more or less in your area.
In the future, don't borrow so much, if you do, get GAP.
-
Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
GAP is almost a must with so many stupid drivers out these days. It's worth the investment when you need it. "WHEN" you need it, there's no if in this world anymore.

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
you may have to consult an attorney, insurance companies are here to **** you over, not help you.

its the companies problem by virtue of their client being completely at fault. she didnt drive out in front of him, he hit the gas and blew through a red light.

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
Here are some more considerations...OK, lets just say the value of that particular car/miles/options is 5K and you owe 6K. If they give you a check for 5K you should be able to buy another car outright with that, and carry the same note on it, you are not out anything, you still have a similar car and you are still 1K upside down. Now if you have to pay tax and tags, etc. on the 5K for the new car, then you are out that money and I would try to recover that too. Like said before make sure you justify the value in KBB or edmunds, who knows in this market you may end up out ahead.

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
lol if its like mine, it will be fixed lol, aveos are cheap cars with very cheap parts

no i wont. because State Farm (his provider) pays Gmac with the money they say my car is worth. so if they decide the car is worth 5k, and i owe 6k, they pay Gmac 5k, leaving me without a car still, AND 1k in the hole for a vehicle i dont have because of someone elses negligence. after checking KBB, they say my dealer value was only 3100 before the accident. the appraiser is supposed to look at it today, i'll keep you all posted.

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
you could sue for the rest, but it may not be worth it. too bad for all the custom stuff, its the risk everyone takes nowadays (unless you have insurance for the custom items, but who does lol)

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
man that blows. They need to make it harder to be able to get a driver's license, like maybe require the people to know what a red light is for..

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
just got off the phone with their total loss department. they told me the car was only worth $3900 and it was considered a total loss. this is going to leave me without a car, and i have to pay GMAC the remaining $2100. thanks to the state of the economy, i cant find work, let alone save enough to get another car. this ****ing sucks

Damn that sucks, that's why I got the whatever-its-called plan when I had a car loan, it guarenteed that if the car got totalled while I still owed money, even if I was upside down on payments, I wouldn't have to fork over the difference. Sadly the car got totalled a few months after paying it off....

its been so long since i bought the car, i cant remember if i bought the gap insurance or not. i just got off the phone with their claims department again. i cant believe the **** they try to pull. they told me the car had prior damage that they werent responsible for. i asked what prior damage the car had, and they gave me all these damages that were the result of the accident i had to call about in the first place. i told them this, and they said there was heavy rust, and that was their proof. i had to explain to them, that the car sat for 3 days outside in a thunderstorm before they sent anyone to haul it where they would look at it. then i had to explain to them the accident scenario as to how the damages occured in the first place. they understand a smashed front end means their client hit my car, but try explaining how the side of the car got damaged, and all of a sudden physics dont apply to these people. they know i have a little car. they know their client has a big ass 1970something lincoln. but they dont understand how my car gets pushed into another vehicle after impact?! then they told me that my performance enhancments i added for better handling and vision were considered preferential, and didnt add to the value of the car. in my opinion, they shouldnt have to add to the value, its bad enough these things were damaged, and should be taken into account.

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
Wow dude, they are bending you over bad! I would most definently take it to court. This guy should be up for at least wreckless endagerment, and failure to yield. That's not right, consult a lawyer cuz' when I got rear-ended in my wreck my truck was totalled and all-state tried to bend me over like that and I sicked a lawyer on them and got 3700 bucks just for my old beat up 88 bronco 2. They tried to give me 1200 and were trying to weasle out of paying my girlfriends and my medical bills at the ER afterwards. Once I got a lawyer involved I ended up getting 3700 for my truck, go my truck back for free(which I sold for 300 bucks in parts), got 1700 pain and suffering, and they paid all my medical bills and for my time missed from work. A lawyer is a small price to pay if he thinks you have case. I'm sorry to hear they're screwin you like this man.

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
they should give you the kbb, but the aveo just does not hold its value(****ing honda), anyways, once you get a job, go to drivetime and overpay for a car(you will get a newer car at least, even with poor credit, after not paying on the aveo), getting the job will be tough though. Too bad the economy sucks, I work at disney now because of it       Hey, you could thank the GOP, short sale investers and import car buyers for your tough times. Good luck man

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
after getting off the phone with an attorney, i got ahold of someone at GMAC. Apparently i bought the GAP coverage, so this hell is less intimidating. i still wont have a car, but now i can save my money and buy a VW Golf like i wanted to in the first place. i dont think i'll ever buy from Chevy again. they got me to pay 23,000 on a 10,000 car, and after i bought the extra coverage, i couldnt get them to make good on my warranties when i needed them to.

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
Volkswagen will not let you down my friend. I've always been a die-hard VW fan. Get a 1.8T, you won't regret it. I'm glad your headache is starting to fade lol.

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
Yeah, buying new cars is not good, im paying 21k for my aveo, but any new car you buy, they will rap you hard on interest rates

is the GTI's VR6 2.0 any good? i read it was like driving a lambo but hundreds of thousands cheaper. i got a friend who is a VW fanatic, but i never get to drive his car's personally.

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?

-
Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?

The VR6's are pretty badass cuz it's a V6, but you can make a lot more power for a lot less money out of a 1.8T. You could bore it to a 2.0T and put a big turbo kit on it w/ front mount intercooler, intake and exhaust and stomp 80% of your friends. And if you wanted AWD without spending 30K+ for an R32 you can swap an Audi TT rear axle and drivetrain into it. The possibilities are endless. check out vwvortex.com.

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
what year vw are you looking to get into? vr6 and 1.8T are two very different animals.
if you shop around you can find a 06 gti for around 11k but it will have some miles. but its a 2.0T fsi, independent rear suspension.
I loved my TT and my R32. if you get a mk5 r32 you could find one for @ 18K easily..?

I doubt it, I know cars are cheaper down there for you guys in the states, but we just had a used 05 R32 up here automatic at that for 27K!!! Can you believe that crap!?!
-
Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
oops. you caught me, i messed up. i meant mk4 r32.
(the mk5 r32 came only in automatics, and for that reason i would only buy another mk4)

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
im actually looking to get a 96'ish Golf GTI (preferably the VR6). but if you say it's cheaper to pimp a 1.8 then thats what i'll do. VW's are awesome, so i dont mind buying a car that old with 80k on it already. plus the aftermarket for golf's that year is immense. not to mention the Bill Stein Coilover kit is only $500!!!!! hells yeah doggy! i can get all the stuff i had on my aveo, for the Golf, for nearly a quarter of the price i paid for the aveo versions.
-
Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
Ok, a 96 would still be a mk3 until 98. 99 is the mk4 "bora" body-style. Yeah dude, once you go Vdub you'll never go back. For a 1.8T you could always upgrade to a Garret 50 trim big turbo kit. I believe its a T3/T4 and they are plentiful. plus once you have the system set up you can always upgrade turbos with a garret. I've still got the stock turbo on my 87 mk2 jetta. It's a work in progress right now, It's flat black, i had 17s on it but now it's on 13s and have redone the exhaust from the header back cat-less with borla turbo muffler. Oh, and do you know how hard it was to find black LED taillights for an 87? lol

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
It's also dropped on coilovers now 3.5" in the front and 3" in the back. She handle so well, like she's ridin' on rails lol. Whatever you do, if you get a VW, be kind to reverse...it is the most notorious gear to go out in a volkswagen.

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?
Aveoblack, where are you located?
i sold off most of my cars, but i have a few friends selling mk4 1.8t's.
Also what price range are you shopping in? i assume if you are looking at mk3's your not breaking the bank.
I LOVE vr6s, built a vr6 mk2 jetta coupe. god that car was fun.
If you shop around, depending on your budget, there are alot of nice cars on vortex that already have suspension and wheels and lots of other mods in the 3000-5000 range. then put a C2 turbo kit on, (about $3000). And for as little as 6000-8000 you can have a east of a car.. my friends vr turbo is putting down @ 420 hp.

Re: any idea what the value of the 05 LS hatch is?

Im in Hanover btw, only been to your side of the state once to buy a pocket rocket i won on Ebay. the first thing i noticed when i craigslisted and ebay'd VW Golf was that they hold their value. i couldnt find one for less than 2900. im unemployed, so its going to take me about 6 weeks to save enough to buy one. hehe, funny you say that about your coilovers, because my buddy chaz has a ford focus that he put coilovers on. dropped his car 4-4 and we were taking 15mile an hour turns at 110!!
