I'm curious, how many miles were on the car?

Don't know about interchangeable engines, sorry.

Direct replacement years for your Aveo are 2009 to 2011. That's very rare for your year. It's recommended at 100,000 miles.

$2000 might be on the high side for cost.

as Poison Ivy said, you have only 3 Model years to choose from for a replacement engine: your model year of 2009, My Model year of 2010, and the 2011 Model year. your best bet is to go for 2010 or 2011 engines; they'll have less miles on them.
