      Aveo head swap oil leak

2004 aveo with used head installed from 2007 aveo and it is leaking oil between head and block on backside under the intake. i've discovered 04 and 05 has a single oil return and 06 and newer have dual return oil ports. Could this be my oil leak issue?

      That would be a “yup”.
Did you use a head gasket for a 2004 or 2007 head?

Must use a 2007 head gasket with a 2007 head.

Maybe wiith a 2007 gasket. From my understanding, the back drain will just be blocked off if you use the correct gasket (the block is solid at that area on a 2004) If you use the 2004 gasket, the drain on the head won’t have any gasket fully surrounding it......thus the leak.

After looking further at a 2004 block, I don’t see enough there for the rear drain to seal against....so please disregard my prior info. I think you can’t use the dual drain head on a single drain block. Sorry.

So I am in the same boat. I ordered a 2004-2007 (apparently not) head from ebay and after installing it noticed there were two oil ports. The one in the back, intake side is leaking a lot of oil.

What did the machine shop do?

I am considering bringing the head to a local machine shop and having them plug the second drain.

I also have heard that in performance engines sometimes they will use bearings to do this.
