I'm not convinced there's a "correct" pronunciation. It seems to depend on where you live.

In interviews, the head designer (Australian) of the Aveo RS concept repeatedly said Aveo in a way I'd never heard before (same emphasis as "avenue"... like "AVeeoh").

EG. Canadians and Americans don't say "Celica" the same way.

Brits say "Prius" quite differently than North Americans. (And not just with a different accent.)
