Cam shaft and sprockets during waterpump/timing belt replacement

Bad water pump.

Hello,

Replacing the water pump and doing the timing (albeit 30k miles less than required, but since I'm in there I might as well do it all) and don't want to deal with setting the cam sprockets and was thinking about attaching a wrench to the cam shaft to hold it in place while I remove both sprockets; can that be done without damaging anything? The cam and crank are currently set tdc. Will be loosening the water pump bolts to remove the timing belt and don't want to deal with setting the timing again after I get everything removed and replaced, so that's the reason for the question.

EDIT: So, I went ahead and removed the water pump without having to remove the sprockets (the timing cover easily bends enough to remove and replace water pump without having to remove cam sprockets) and my intake cam is now off one tooth which I'll crank counterclockwise to reset; put belt on, adjust water pump to align with tensioner mark, spin crank twice to assure tdc, tighten everything up...
