"Chevy Sonic" to replace Aveo name? "Chevrolet Sonic" trademark applied for by GM

So, I noticed two more official quotes from GM that purposefully do not call the 2012 North American Aveo by name, instead referring to it as "Chevrolet's brand new small car" - eg. recently on the Orion Assembly Facebook page.

(See earlier thread: Aveo's future uncertain. Will GM keep or drop the name for North America? )

A quick search of the US Patent and Trademark Office database shows GM applied for a new vehicle name last month: Chevrolet Sonic. (Trademark serial # 85145025)

I'd be willing to bet that's the name the North American market is going to see in place of "Aveo" on the next generation car, to be revealed in Detroit in January.

Stupidest thing I've seen. I wonder if they will rename the spark to "tails".

The gmcanada website has the Aveo RS listed.
I leased Pontiac Wave from September 2006 to August 2011.

Neither GM USA or Canada has made an official announcement yet.

We'll have the answer in January, when the next gen. car debuts in North America at the Detroit auto show.

I'm still betting it's going to be Sonic though :P

Ya know, I actually like that name better... Certainly easier to pronounce.
      - 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Z34 - LQ1 3.4L DOHC 24 valve semi-hemi V6, 210 HP, 215 ft-lbs of torque, 4T60e 4 speed automatic with O/D.... 123,000+ miles. Slowly resto-modding it.
      - looking for a first gen Aveo for a daily driver :D

God I hope not.... Although I think they should steal an idea from the Dodge Caliber and intriduce a heated and cooled beverage cooler inside the glovebox. Test drove a Caliber with that and thought that was cool and something I'd make use of.
