So the "Sonic" news got splashed all across the web today.
The latest tidbit of unconfirmed gossip is that the name change may be global, not just North American.
Next Aveo To Sport New Name - GM Inside News Forum
I say lets call it the Turboencabulator.
Please do not power off, firmware update pending.....
I'm down with that.
Then we could call the 1.4t version the Turboencabulator Turbo.
Well, it's official:
"SONIC" in North America
"AVEO" in the rest of the world
for the next generation car.

I dont mind the name sonic all the much. But i think it is petty pointless to buy names if its only used in one place. If aveo is used in the rest of the world why not keep it aveo here?
I guess they figured North Americans are harder to please than the rest of the world, and there's not enough love for the current Aveo in this market.
Also, we apparently get upset by the pronunciation issue, whereas the rest of the world doesn't
But the biggest thing is: until the Cruze recently came along, the Aveo was the best-selling Chevrolet car outside of North America. So it has much stronger nameplate awareness overseas than it ever did here. GM never spent much on marketing it here.
did chevy cobalt get totally wiped out? or are they still making cobalts in other countries? or is it just cruze all over the world?
also, just an idea... :P we should add chevrolet sonic into that list where it says aveo, wave, g3, swift, etc etc
cuz aveo is still alive, sonic is just a rebadged aveo! so the sonic people can come on here if they like..
