So I woke up last night to some cops knocking at my door. Turns out someone in a Rabbit took the corner to fast and hit the rear of the drivers side while the Aveo (hatch) was parked on the road. Nothing is really badly damaged, but starting at the back:
-the bumper is bent out down at the exhaust pipe,
-the red signal on the side of the bumper is shattered, scrapes, marks and dents from that signal until the bumper meets the wheel well,
-Near the bottom of the wheel (steel) the lip is slightly bent in, you can also see some red paint from the car on the wheel, as well as a 6 inch smoothed out mark on the wheel where the car must have rubbed,
-panel above the wheel has scrapes, and the metal is buckled i na few places,
-panel after the wheel has various scrapes and dents for 5 inches or so.
I also noticed that my car (which I always park completely straight Im positive) had the rear end pushed up against the curb whereas the front wheel was 6 inches away. I also noticed that a whole bunch of paint on the shock had been cracked and peeled away.
My question is, how easy is it for the wheel and everything down there to be damaged? It all looks fine but this car was parked in the road behind my car after the accident. It makes me think that it hit my wheel and transfered all the force right into my car at that point, while it bounced back behind my car. (It was facing the same direction as my car, it hit the rear end with its front end)
I didnt drive it today just in case, I'm going to make my insurance claim when I get home in a few hours.
