Definitely there's more making fun of small cars in Canada/US. When the best-selling vehicle in both countries is a full-size pickup truck (and has been forever), that tells you something.
I still drive GM's pre-Aveo (Chevrolet Metro) which is even a bit smaller than an Aveo. One friend made fun of it (and made me laugh, I will admit) when he first saw it:
"OK, where's the rest of it??"
Everyone loves mine thus far (I've had her for 1 month). Coworkers and friends admire the value I got and my homemade ski rack, girlfriend thinks it's cute, most importantly I think it's cute. I named her Avis because she looks like a budget-conscious rental car.
I suppose the closest to ribbing I've had was from my Wrangler-driving tattoo artist, who called it a "city zipper."
I do not usually get made in of for my Aveo because I'm 6'4" however... people do ask me how I manage to fit in the Aveo... although all of you know quite well its very spacious(for a little car.) I have more head room than I do in my friends XJ. I have driven a lot of cars and I fit in my Aveo very well. does anyone else have this experience too?
But as for being made fun of I have not gotten much of that. I do joke around and call it a Micro van because it looks like a tiny van.(hatchback)
swoon... I wanted a metro when I bought this aveo... my wife talked me into the aveo because the interior was nicer than the metro and was cheaper if you can believe that... people around here wanted $5,000+ for a 90s metro with 200k miles...
I'm 6'6 and it's still easy to get with it sitting on the floor.
No but then most folks don't say much in the way of such foolishness to a greybeard old biker with crazy eyes .. I just purchased a 2006 Harley Ultraglide after 14 years on a Honda Shadow Sabre.. no one ever said get a Harley to me then either.
I haven't gotten that much really as far as I know. I've had more interest and people not knowing what it is with no emblems or badges on it and the brown Rustoleum paint job.
You know you really love a car when you hit a deer total the front and want to repair it back to stock or pristine modified form and keep driving it. Also having the wind blow the aveo hood into the glass and crack your windshield like happened to me yesterday when I wasn't paying attention to which direction it was blowing.

At my age n maturity level, I revel in the notion that I don't care what others think of what I drive. I drive a Korean car, married a Malaysian women, and best of all......I'm happy with both!
