      Dumb question

      I have a 2007 Aveo 5 Special Value.

I was wondering when I went to put gas in the car today, does my car have a Low Fuel Light?

I'm wondering cause it did not come on and I know it should have. I wanted to know so I can tell if I need to replace the bulb in the dash, if equipped.

it does, but it comes on at @ .5 gallons, you can only see it at night with no other dash lights on.

      Alright...

I'll just check to see if there's a bulb then.

      Low Fuel Warning Light

This light comes on when the
      vehicle is low on fuel.
The low fuel warning light comes on
      when there are approximately
6.0 liters (1.7 gallons) of fuel
      remaining in the tank.
To turn the light off, add fuel to the
fuel tank. See Filling the Tank on
      page 9‑37.

direct copy and paste from my 2011 owners manual. Your owners manual should answer your question the most accurately.

.5 gallons? I don't know. The light comes on to give your fair warning that you are low on fuel. It's intended to come on before you are so low that you can't make it to a gas station. .5 gallons would be a disaster on the highway.

I would believe the 1.5 gallon range. I have tripped it once in my 2008. Made a 2 hour trip on the interstate with only one quarter of a tank of gas. The light was lighting only dimly and very occasionally when I pulled into the gas station. I am confident I had plenty of gas in the tank to make it a bit further if I had needed to.

I will think of a better signature later.

Don't know if it's the same on the later models that you guys are talking about, but here's how it works on my 2005. Yellow (orange? it's been a while) light comes on in a dim "flicker" mode - on just for a short moment, then off for quite a while. That's likely to start happening with (somewhere) around 1.5 gallons left. Then, probably around .5 or 1 gallon, that same warning light comes on and stays on. Daytime, especially in bright Sunlight, it's very hard to see the light.

Wow, then chevy really improved the low fuel warning method in the later models. I only have to put 10.5 gallons in my 12 gallon tank when the low fuel light comes on. My low fuel light comes on and stays on and I can clearly see it in the daylight.

I would go with the 1.7 figure. I have tested this many times. I was working an hour away job (aprox 60 miles) and I would often work late. By the time I got in the car and drove home, the warning light would come home halfway home. At this point in the journey there are no gas stations. I would often make the remaining 30 miles OK. Risky.

Just fill up when you can...!
