Hey all, well I'm going to do it finally! I'm getting the 2012 Jetta. Anyway not abandoning the forums here permanently. Still have the 2007 Aveo 5 Hatchback and no I'm not going to dissappear into the VW Vortex like some other people or any other forums. The only downside? I need to sell my sedan for the downpayment. See the for sale section for big money savings!
i have more posts on vortex than i do here, been on vortex since the late 90's? (multiple user names)

Congrats on the new car. My mom has a 2012 sportwagen TDI. Its a very nice car.
Just a quick update on everything. I did not buy it in NY where I live. I ended up using a VW Audi of Newton,NJ. Very nice people in there and very close to where I work. Anyway papers were signed on it tonight and should be picking up the car on Friday 12/23. The payments were no where near as bad I as I thought they were going to be and I got a great finance rate, no money down and I get to keep my Aveo sedan as a daily driver still. The Jetta is candy white with a charcoal interior. I didnt go nuts on the car. I bought the Jetta S as I am only using it for a commuter car and I got it in a 5 speed stick. Still plenty peppy for me eventhough my friend Gregg who has the R32 calls my 2.0 liter the 2.SLOW motor.
Everyone calls it the 2.slow but its a popular VW engine that they had to "bring back"

I have a 3 car garage with 2 sitting outside. Wow! Talk about multicar insurance discounts! Anyway, another update to fill you all in on. I got all the paperwork from the dealer Fed-Ex'd to my home and it arrived this morning. The numbers we had agreed upon and the numbers I recieved from the bank were two completely different circumstances. Car price, Interest rate had been padded and $1400 in un-needed and non-necessary supposedly called "documentation fees". I mean I'm 47 yrs old and have been around the block many times over the years in different cars. So this brings me to a new thing. I went to the regular Chevrolet dealership that I have been going to for many years looked at a new Sonic Sedan and decided I wanted something bigger. Long story short may I introduce you all to my new 2012 Cruze Eco with the 1.4L Turbo motor and 6spd manual transmission. Still getting my new car as planned. Just make and model have changed!Quote:

Please dont take my drivetrain! its the only one I got! Anyway picking it up Thursday 12/22 after 9am. I'm all set to go and to think I managed this all today in one day at the dealership. By the way the Jetta was around $16500 and this Cruze was just shy of $19000.Quote:

Here is where i get a little lost
- You live in NY, but went to NJ to buy a Jetta
- You really liked the dealer, but didn't pull the trigger that day
- When the paperwork arrived, it was incorrect
So...
- You got mad and threw your hands up and said eff all of them
- you went and bought a completely different car for an additional 2500 bucks
Just curious.
- Why didn't you contact the NJ dealer to work it out?
- Why didn't you try to get a deal at another VW dealer?
- If you were going to spend the additional chedder, why not buy the Jetta SE in the first place instead of the S? difference is night and day from S to SE

Next set about getting a little lost:

I told him I was buying a Jetta and was just there to pick up a part for my Aveo. I also told him that I hated buying new cars especially now that the VW dealership was busting my balls to no end with all these crappy extra charges and ridiculous finance rate. He asked me why if I had always bought Chevys why was I buying something different than usual. I told him that I liked the car and wanted a change. Thats all. While I was there I decided to check out a Cruze and to be perfectly honest the Cruze is loaded with options like crazy. Not to mention that the 1.4L with turbo and 6spd really is so much faster than the Jetta.
To answer the "So..." question:
I decided I didnt feel like playing the game with the VW dealership. Phil, my friend got me 5.9% finance, no money down and threw it heavy winter rubber floor mats and window rain guards. I said what the hell. I wrapped the deal up Wednesday and picked it up Thursday around 3pm with 45 miles on it. I love the Cruze! What a blast this car is! I now have 125 miles on the car and it friggin awsome!
Oh and as far as spending the extra money is concerned? It was never a money issue. The Jetta had so many more options than the Aveo, and this Cruze is total option city so I decided to treat myself for Christmas! merry xmas to me! In the beginning I was just looking for a new base model commuter car but decided later that if I was going to be spending so much time commuting that I might as well make myself comfortable.
There ya go! Hope that helps clear up some of the "what the F*@K did he do" questions!

I once stopped in a used car dealership to ask about a set of tires and ended up leaving with an entire car. So, I can identify. :)

Sorry all that its been so long between posts. The job has been keeping me extremely busy and I havent had a day off since Christmas. I mean that literally! So I still have my 04 Aveo sedan and its tucked away nice and safe in my garage while the new Cruze sits out in the weather next to my Suburban. I now have 2000 miles on the car since I picked it up. Remember my commute is 140 miles per day round trip so it adds up quite quickly. The 1.4 turbo with the 6 spd had been a lot of fun and I have been averaging about 46 miles per gallon. Shocked the hell out me since the Cruze is rated 28mpg City/42mpg Highway. I love the comforts of the car and especially the XM satellite radio. Oh and I also love the fact that the car is linked to my Droid phone. Thats kinda cool. Anyway, I'd still debating whether or not to sell the Aveo. I'm experiencing some guilt issues in that department. I am seriously considering just keeping it and putting it back on the road and driving it to the very end of its life. I'm still not 100% sure as to why I bought a new car when I really didnt need one anyway. I still very much love driving my Aveo and to tell you all the truth miss it daily!
PS: First mod to the Cruze is that I yanked out the Delco air filter and dropped in my K & N filter.
Just sell it, you won't drive it anymore ;)
Again, Congratulations. Thanks for taking the time to answer my stupid questions. I think you know why you bought a new car....with a 140/day commute, the Aveo will need to be replaced sooner rather than later in order for you to have a reliable car. Nothing like being stranded many miles from home. you feel helpless. Deep down you know this. And I find it really hard to believe 46 MPG if you dive anything over 55 on the highway....has that been an average tank to tank, or just a small amont of driving?
I think his mileage and history with the car disagree with this, mine too. i was commuting 120 miles a day (why i bought the aveo). What did you go buy again? (off topic) are you happy with it? or do you have a ____Junk name on that cars forum too :P poking fun.Quote:

The deep down part of knowing I will need another car fairly soon with the Aveo having 151K on it so far I definitely agree with Aveojunk. My allegiance to the Aveo is that its the first car in 20 some odd years thats small that I feel comfortable in. Growing up many years and during a time in my life back then I was also a much smaller person as well. I pretty much drove Rabbits, Golfs, and Celicas. This car has been such a joy to own and has caused me very little in repair outside of normal maintenance meaning oil changes, tires and brakes and such. I've had the occasional wheel bearing, and a lower control arm many years ago with it but other than those things nothing major at all. As a matter of fact it still drives very tight both in suspension and the shifting of the automatic transmission. This I must say surprises the hell out of me. That's the kind of apples to apples comparison I want to see when someone talks about fuel economy; same driver, same commute. You have written before you were getting 30-32mpg with the Aveo and now 44-46 with the Cruze. Those numbers match up perfectly with the $20 vs $14 fillups. I may take a look at the Cruze...I drive about 30k a year and 80+% of it is interstate highway.
The cruze is capable of VERY good (64mpg good) fuel economy if you're willing to have a VERY light foot:

how does the extra $10k for the car work into that math? or like all the other initial prices of hybrid type fuel efficient cars, its not about dollar efficiency, its about spending money to think your helping the environment.
The absolute dollar per mile/month efficiency doesn't work for me until gas hits about $8 a gallon. The difference in fuel economy for me at current prices would save me about $80 a month in gas. If that $80 a month is applied towards a Cruze payment, it makes it a little more feasible to buy the peppier, more comfortable, and QUIETER car.
I agree with you that i may be quieter (compared to my slammed aveo, most things are) but i have not been in one long enough to really "know" how quiet it is. I thought from the hp to weight, it was actually about the same as the aveo in "peppiness" which really disappointed me. Comfort is a direct personal feeling, although the cruze is not bad. The larger console gave my right leg less knee room.
Ok, not sure what to make of your comment. You say poking fun, so that throws me off a little. I owned an Aveo so I am not an unqualified poster. I do not come on this forum much but do cruze (pun intended) by and read once in a while still. I do not bash the Aveo and I do not start fights with people. I was just poking fun with the name comment, I knew you traded your aveo. I could not remember what you got, but you've now had it long enough I was seriously asking if you still liked it or not.
As for the first part of my comment, your experience is it wasnt reliable enough to be a long commuter car, and i was stating that my experience, and NYChevoo's history of his aveo both support that it is perfectly good as a long commuter car. As we both used ours for that, long term.
I suppose you may be right on this point petrified.rabbit! How does the $10K work into this equation. Apples and oranges too so far as comparisons may go. The Cruze has been a joy to drive and I'm not really placing much of a presidence on fuel economy, which still is pretty cool as far as I'm concerned, only because youre all right it really doesnt balance out the new car payment I've aquired monthly. There was nothing wrong with my Aveo and still is very drivable even at 151000 miles. I just wanted a new car after 7 yrs. I still have the Aveo, and as a matter of fact placed it back on the road last week because to be perectly honest I really still like the car quite a bit. I love its simplicity as opposed to all the bells and whistles and the constant stuff that is part of the normal operating of the Cruze. I havent actually driven the Cruze since last week but now have just a hair over 3000 mies on it. Now it does just what the Suburban does. They sit together side by side waiting to be driven.Quote:

As strange as it may seem to some of you especially since I went on and on about a new car that i would not only buy the new car, and also keep my Aveo, but also not be driving the new one as well. As the days progress I often start to wonder about maybe being slightly premature in the "wanting a new car, as opposed to needing a new car". Truly when I stated that since the Aveo went back on the road that the Cruze sits next to the Suburban in the driveway I mean it. I've had no itchings whatsoever to jump behind the wheel of it. You'd think I'd be all over gods creation roaring around in it. I am quite satisfied to continue to jump in the Aveo and go about my daily business as usual. If its of any consolation to me or my or my expenses the truth of the matter is that the Aveo will not last forever and any misgivings I may have had about that will be proven false when the time arises. The up part of this is that I have the Cruze and will not be standed at any time soon.
