fuel pump not priming

Neice bought a 2005 aveo. I have power at fuel pump but pump will not prime when key is turned. I thought I was a bad pump so we bought a new fuel pump. plugged new pump in. not installed in tank just plugged in outside of tank and still new pump doesnt run when I turn the key. Her oil light is staying on also but car was running while oil was on. Any advice?

Are you getting any codes with an odb2 scanner?

Get one of the test lights and hook it up to the pumps plug, see if you are getting current
