Gas Tank Door Question...

I have a 2006 Chevy Aveo LS Hatchback Last time I went to get gas, went to shut the gas door and 'something' broke on it and it won't stay closed. I inspected it, the little peg mechanism is there, but there were little pieces of an O Ring. I assumed it went on there 'somehow'. I played with it a little and ended up supergluing the pieces of O Ring on the PLASTIC arm that reaches back to the peg. It holds the door closed MOST of the time but when I am driving and look out the side mirror, I can see it is open again! How do I fix this?

I read someplace to glue a magnet on the inside, the kind that you push to get open...like a cabinet!?

You can get a new OEM part from the dealer. I think it's around $20

I had some magnet's used to repair fridge door's I think They were thin and had a sticky backing. doubled up a few and the lid stays shut. when i need gas a quick tap on the forward edge and the door pops open.

I paid about 5 bucks at my dealer to get that part. Fixed it myself. Just bring your VIN with you.
