Just made it past 100,000 miles on my 2009 Aveo5 LS. Just had the timing belt/water pump/tensioner done. I think I paid a little much but it is a local mechanic. It has been a great car 2 sets of spark plugs, lots of oil changes, three sets of tires, and three sets of light bulbs so far.....next up 200,000.

Well.... It ended up being right at $600. I dont have the bill in front of me but I know that the Labor was $160 and $130 for the water pump. The rest was ps/serp belt, pully/tensioner. I thought it was a little high but it was a local mechanic that I have gone to for years. He said it took a while and he had a hard time with the timing.....not really sure why.
I do have some tools but was chicken to try it myself being that I don't have a backup car right now and I wanted it done the same day without any headaches. I have read the writeups on this site as well as some others but they are all for older engines and being mine is a 09 it is a little different. I think some other people have posted how much it cost them... so I am going to try and find out how much I was screwed.

thats actually not a bad price if he did the water pump as well.. $290 i parts, and $310 in labor, taxes, etc.. With labor rates what they are, its only 2-3 hours of labor. 4 is he is really discounted in labor rates.

The Engine is completely different than the ETECII so it wouldnt go together the same way.

Thanks Rabbit that makes me feel better if you think it was a fare price. Like I said he is a local guy he just marks up the parts so much I have to remember that I am saving on labor cost.

paying retail on parts is tough to deal with when so many places sell at cost..

markup to suggested retail on a lot of parts from poorboys or inadvanced can be 50% or more..

I just passed 149,000 miles! On my way to 200K! At this point I have developed a couple of minor issues. I seem to have some coolant loss and the last time I did my oil change it looked as if it was coming from under the timing belt cover so I suspect water pump leakage. Now the timing belt was replaced 58000 miles ago. Interesting that the original water pump never leaked but the replacement did after 58k miles. My climate control center seems not to be directing the hot air where I set it to. I mean if I set it on defrost it still comes out of the vents and very little hits the windshield. I know that its cable driven so that should be interesting to look at. I mean the temp change between hot and cold works fine and so does the a/c when I used it in the summer. So maybe my vents are gumming up? Who knows. Anyway no overall complaints, just minor issues for a 7 year old car with 149K on it. Funny but even still have the original battery in it!

I really had not done anything. We are now at 177000 miles. I have since had the timing belt changed out per a previous comment that was a good idea. Other than that nothing! I will buy me another one of these cars!!!

At 91000 miles when I got my timing belt done I had it done at the Chevy dealer. Reason being is that they had a 12month/12000mile warranty on all the parts. They did timing belt, water pump, idler and tensioner pulleys. I paid $698.00 which I know is a little much but it was worth it to me to have the peace of mind of the warranty.

Almost 40k on my 08 aveo5, Xaio's Header has about 20k on it and still looks like new even with the snowy salty michigan roads i drive on. Slap the gears dump the clutch and let her fly. I beat the tar out of it and still runs like a top. I have a hitch on it and i overload it all the time for the fun of it because I can break the whole car and fix it for cheap. I also took the back seats out so I can really overload it. Timing belt is getting changed in the spring other than that zero maintenance other than oil has been done.
