How well does the AVEO handle in snow?

My 5-Spd 08 LS seems to handle ok with whatever tires were on it when I got it used (2 different kinds, front and back, but neither snow tires) ... here in Colorado, that is. I drove a manual for a while, then drove an Auto for the last 6-7 years, so I kinda had to learn how to take off in snow and slush again. But after a few fishtailing starts, I had the hang of it, and most people around here said you can get around fine in front wheeldrive... seems to be true.

The Aveo is blessed when it comes to snow. I've drove all different vehicles in the snow out here in Prince Edward Island: Chevrolet Astro Van, Chevrolet Astro Van Mark III, Pontiac Sunfire, 2007 Hyundai Elantra, 2004 Dodge Ram 1500, Kia Magentis, Honda Civic.. A few Honda Civics actually.

The Aveo cuts through the snow no problem, doesn't slip or side too often. It has a nice aggressive and defensive take on the roads, all at the same time. I was coming from the up west area back out to my house in Cavendish last night, snow packed roads with a nice layer of ice under neath, no plows or sand doing around 130KM/H took all the curves in the road and what not fine, didn't slip or slide once and my back tires are quite bald. Mind you I'm on all seasons, and go ahead and say "STUPID!" But I have a feel for what's safe at the moment and what's not, it was pretty much all highway 2-Lane though, wasn't double lane. As for city driving, I never have any problems. I drive 5-Speed by the way, the one thing I do notice is if it's windy out and the wind can hit you - Which out here it can - The Aveo needs a good set of tires all around, cause the back end tends to sway in slush.

So this may or may not have helped, but by far this is my favorite car any seasons and I only came close to sliding out of control once, and I was on tires right down to the treads.

As for my GF driving, I'm just nervous about teaching her on the Aveo due to those crappy mounts.

Brendan, I'd give you a wreckless on your speed, but you know your car and the roads, you should know how fast you can push it.

Jesus! 130 on those roads? With all season tires... My friend, you are crazy. But I do understand what you mean. This car has such bad under-steer, that it is very predictable in slippery conditions.

I hit 200KM/H with the roads covered in about 5CM of snow, with an undercoat of ice. I'm not trying to brag by any means, or sound cocky but I feel I have a real connection with the road, and the people in the cabin of my car since I started driving have said I have a natural ability to drive, same with my Drivers Ed Teacher. It's still not an excuse, cause anything can happen but I know how to handle the car at those speeds.

The bad under-steer works in our benefits during the winter though, and in slipper conditions I notice the car has a good aggressive take against whatever road conditions it faces as a pose to some other cars. I love the Aveo, I've never felt so safe in a car before.

Won't be happening, I slow down when there's traffic coming. This highway you have a clear shot for about a mile of what's coming ahead, it's all flat and straight. There's only 3 turns/curves in the whole hour long adventure.

UP of Michigan, I've got winterforce tires and I regularly go through 8-12 inches of snow. If it won't go forward through it, try backing up, u'll be surprised how much it will go through. It feels like driving a snow plow when I bust in and out of driveways. I embarrass AWD rich kids at college all the time. Wind is the only thing that makes it a pain to drive in the snow.

I bought studded snows and put on the stock wheels with hubcaps for the winter. Even lowered the car does great in the snow. On the highway I am always passing people when the weather is bad. Just get you some good winter tires and you'll be fine. Your mileage will suffer from the tires and the road conditions. That's been my experience with comparison to summer driving. Other than that I have had no problems in the snow.
