If you change the timing belt as instructed--

If you change the timing belt as instructed, you wont have any issues with it breaking. I change mine every 60,000 miles and have no problem. My car has 255,000 miles on it and doesn't burn a drop of oil. thanks to using AMSOIL:p

Is your 1.6L the E-tech II, or the Ecotec. In North America, in 2009 we got the Ecotec, which is WAY more durable for timing belt disasters. If your manual reads to do it at 8 years, that SHOULD mean you have the Ecotec, and you'll be fine.

I wish every Aveo owner knew this, it would make the million broken belt threads go away!

the ecotec name does not determine the engine either. If you look at the different models under ecotec.

Yes it would! That is one of the main reasons that Aveo's were given a bad reputation. That belt turns into a ticking time-bomb if it isn't replaced at the ~60k interval.
