I was a little pressed for time, and that led to me getting defeated by the 'caulking nut'
It's the giant 1-1/4, nut at the center of the hub. 221ft lbs? I had a 4ft breaker bar on the end of a socket wrench and this sucker wouldnt budge.
Any tricks to this? And yes I pried the notch up that locks the nut to the axle shaft.
impact, a good one. or heat.
Great, looks like I'll need an air compressor now. You'd think the breaker bar would have got it.
I checked You tube with some ideas I might try next.
Electric impact gun will do the trick, one like this!

There might not be any Canadian Tire stores in the states, but you get the idea, these electric impacts are damn powerfull.
Typically a breaker bar with a pipe over that to make it longer. Just watch yourself, I have broke breaker bars doing this!
if you have to use the breaker bar, then yes use the cheater bar. Put the wheel and brakes back together, put it on the ground, in gear, have someone stand on the breaks and you stand on the cheater bar..
Sorry, I forgot about that part. I always break them loose before I start.

Compared to the cheater bar is this a good idea or not....?
i have 2 of those, work great for many things, like the retaining screws on rotors, etc.. but i dont think it is enough for more than 50-60 ft lbs..

I have a 120v 1/2 drive impact and that was also useless.
This thing is on there at 221ft lbs.
My next plan is to remove the hubcap and attack the axle nut with all 4 wheels on the ground and locked by the brakes.
Then hope my best 1/2 drive socket wrench wont snap when I attach a 3-4 ft pipe to it (same as used before)
you could put the breaker bar on the nut and prop it against the ground, then roll the car backwards (?)

I couldnt get it to hold before, since I had removed everything including the brake caliper.
What size mm socket is needed for removeing the front axle nut on my 2004 ? Would a 3/4 breaker bar work better ? I do have a Dewalt 1/2 drive electric impact.
I used a 1 1/4" socket on my 2010. I think I got mine off with a 1/2' air impact.
I went down to the "Dumpy Tire Change Place" on the corner and gave the guy $5 to loosen mine. I then on the spot tightened it with my own rachet and finished the rest at home. Take your socket with you because he may not have one that big. guys like me and you dont have impact tools and or anything else so dont listen to some of these folks. You work with what you have or you borrow it for a couple of beers.

except mine is a bit of an older model, but it still has the same specs of 350 Ft. Lbs of Torque, Twin Hammers, 3 Forward Speeds and one Reverse, and the Tease Trigger for more Precise Control.
