Might be time to say goodbye

I've been having some over heating problems with my 2006 Aveo when the a/c is on, but today the check engine light came on and it delayed going forward when the gas was pressed. So I believe the transmission is going out. My husband's old car couldn't get going when it went out in that car. I'm not sure if it's worth trying to fix or just getting a newer car. We had talked of getting something bigger since we have 3 kids in car seats and it is a bit tight. But I love my Aveo and I'd be willing to stay small if the Sonic isn't too much different. Thoughts?

Hesitation during acceleration can be caused by a number of things, not just the transmission. Get the code scanned (just about any auto parts store will do this for free) and post it back here. That will give us something to go on.

I know, but the transmission fluid smells burnt and I know there are other issues that will cost more than the car is worth.
