Here's one..... I have a first gen 04 with 171000 miles on it. Runs like a top and does not leak a drop of oil. Replaced the head and all the associated gaskets at 80000.

I've got an 05 aveo with 79200 miles. This year alone I've replaced the battery, tail light bulbs, valve cover gasket*/spark plugs, and the brakes. All original. *Dealer ship does free oil changes...they gave extra oil on the 3 previous oil changes. Other than the cosmetics, its a good running car.
Any main reason to replace the head or did you have machine work done?
Actually, dumb me ignored the timing belt, and destroyed the valves on the original. When we pulled the head, you could see where the original valves were misaligned and scored the top of the pistons. Have been thinking about tearing it down again and having the head ported and polished along with the throttle body. Right now though, have ordered all new body bushings, and the VW coilover conversion kit to change out all struts and springs to coilovers that have matching spring and dampening rates. Then, once my smart car is finished, (custom forged je pistons .30 over, ported and polished head and throttle body, custom cold air intake, etc) then I may entertain the idea of having the aveo's motor reworked.
