Need some tips on what to do with my Aveo

I have had my Aveo since 09, its a LT and only has 42k miles on it. Now i want to start to upgrade and make it my own.

Here is what i am doing for the radio and Rims this week.

I am also going to add a Sub and Amp for some better bass, but nothing thumping.

I am thinking of adding some minor lights on the inside, changing the shifter and changing the lights in the front and back. Anyone else got any extra tips?

Im sorry but its just a cheap compact car that I drive for the gas mileage only. Times are too hard to just to being cosmetic nonsence. Save your money or invest it. My teenage son did all that stuff to his car for the "Look At Me"
mentality only to have his car broke into a week later. His stereo & speakers were stolen. I know young people like that stuff but its a waste and all for what.

I happen to feel the same way about vehicles that you do. To me their utilitarian, and I've never been interested in doing any customization. Just trying to keep them maintained and running well. But OTOH, I think your comments are WAY over the top. Why would you be trying to tell this guy what he should or shouldn't do, in reply to his question? He's into fixing up his vehicle, the same as lots of other folks do. Not a thing wrong with that, IMO.

      Upgrade, radio & rims.

The guy asked for advise and the way I took it was he wanted to go maybe above and beyond in the scheme of more custom work. If I had that wrong then no harm / no foul. As a law enforcement officer I see allot of the younger folks put $5,000 rims on a $1,200 car. Ive seen $5,000 stereos in a $700 car. I write tickets every day to young kids for the "Blue High Beam Lights" because they blind on-coming traffic and cause accidents all for the sake of some kid wanting to "Look Cool". The after market "Buzz Bomb" mufflers are right up there with it too because kids think it sounds cool when in all reality its not factory just like the high beams and just plain noisy. Most of the time I blame the parents for giving their kids the money for this crap. Boom boxes and thumping is another one of my pet peaves. These kids and some adults crank out 2000 plus watts for their own enjoyment only to get on the nerves of thousands of other motorist. If youve been at a stop light for 3 minutes then you know what Im talking about. I write them up too. Over half of the people I pull over dont even have auto insurance. Theyve got money for all this other crap but no money for auto insurance. Go figure. Aveos are NOT hot rods and never will be. The Aveo just like the Chevete too will fade away. Its just a compact car.

patricklprice, as avguy said, take a chill pill. I dont think OP asked for a rant about traffic violations. Although I do agree with you on most points, there is a time and place for rants, and this guys thread asking for advice is not one of them...

Agreed^^ There is nothing wrong with make a car your own. You are correct it is an eco car but they will not go away with gas prises on the rise and fewer good jobs to the younger drivers not every kid can afford a nice car some adults cant either its just to expensive to live in some areas. I dont like loud systems or rice cans but a nice exhaust system a CAI and An aftermarket radio by themselve are not illeagal. In the end its how you use them that defines how you appear to the law like yourself. Im a full grown man and i love my aveo its my travel car and my DD I still get pulled over for dumb **** its apart of being a car guy. This guy is no different than any of us here so dont discourage him from having fun with his car.
On a lighter note Thank you for keeping our streets safe.

Well, this topic took a weird turn.

First lets start off by saying i am not going over the top, im not really going for the "look at me" thing, i just want my car that i bought new 3 years ago to be my style.

I have spent $250 on the radio, $200 on the amp and single sub (again, not for thump for for some decent lows) and $300 on new "better than stock" rims. I dont plan on spending more than $1000. so your assumption that i am putting in to my car more than its worth is way off. I got an appraisal from a dealership and the car is work 7.5k as it sits if i wanted to trade for a new car.

But i plan to ride this thing til the wheels fall off.

Get some H&R lowering springs, gives it a nice stance and improves your handling! Tint your windows, upgrade the stock speakers, if your adding some interior lights go with flex-led lights, easy to place and puts out nice glow put some glow in the trunck to show off your sub and amp. If you are going to go with an HID kit get an H4 6000k hi/lo kit, puts out nice white light. There are nice LED tail lights you can get as well. Put in fog lights, or change the bulb in them if you have fog lights, get a cold air intake, I will think of more lol
