Well the dealer just called and said the timing belt is in and I asked him about the pulleys. Said he hadn't plan on replacing them. My question to the board is do the pulleys wear out as well ? I'm thinking to go buy the pulleys myself and have the dealer put them on. The water pump has to come off. Should I replace it as well on a 51000 mile engine ?
Thanks
Just ask faithjr that question, he can give you a good answer....
replace the water pump, tensioner, and idler pulley.
Just bought a cd repair manual off feebay. As soon as I get it it I'll understand more on this vehicle. Questions I have for members are.
Does the water pump have to be removed to replace the timing belt ?
AC Delco shows the same pulley for the idler and tensior (T42170) Is this correct ?
Thanks in advance
No the water pump doesn't have to be removed but if your replacing the belt depending on when the pump was changed if ever and how many miles you have on the vehicle I would recommend replacing the water pump if it goes so does the belt and hence your engine.
to install the belt you loosen and turn the water pump, on a car with 60k miles that could damage the oring. so taking it out to replace the oring mean its worth it to pay the $30 for a new one instead of reusing a 60k mile old part.
