New member From Ohio

Hello all I am the new owner of a 2009 Aveo5 LS. I got it for basic transportation back and forth to work and to keep miles off good cars. However, I am pretty impressed with this car. I have some pretty fun other cars so I'm not a bigginer as far as the cars I drive. I'll list them later. I'm trying to find info on mods I can do on my car without spending a ton of cash on it. Again I have other cars I can spend money on and this is supposed to be a car for my commute to work saving me gas and wear and tear on other vehicles.

So thats how I ended up here.

I'm thinking of doing the suspension sometime in the next year. (I've had it 2 weeks) I'm also thinking of tinting the windows. If someone ever gets a turbo (or supercharger) kit I may do that too. Rims and tires when I need tires probably, unless I can't wait.

Anyway let me get to the good stuff. Here is a pic of my new car.

Make yourself a nice short ram or cold air intake, that shouldn't run you over $30. The main cost is just the filter, I used PVC pipe for my cold air intake. The short ram I had in before the CAI had an extreme deep growl to it whenever I accelerated.

If you want a nice appearance look to it and you have a lot off patience you might want to try a DIY window tinting, if it's your first it might not come out perfect but after you start practicing you'll get it.

But I'm going to warn you once you start doing mods to your aveo it starts to infect you... you wont ever be able to stop and or control yourself. :twisted:

No I think its an LS. I may be wrong I guess, I've had it just a little while. I had them put the spoiler on. It just looks better to me.

BTW I've been to Fairbanks. My Dad has a house in Salcha. I love Alaska.

Oh, ok. That's why I thought it was an LT. Welcome to the forums. Just out of curiosity, what was your out-the-door price on your aveo? I love it here too. My company makes chemical deliveries to Sulcha every day.

All said and done I paid just over 10k for it. Thats sales tax and all...I added Air too. If I hadn't it would have been around 7 plus tax. So about 8500... But summer here makes a/c a must.

I traded in my old 89 Dodge Dakota in on it with the cash for clunkers thing.

Thanks for the offer...What all goes into the cold air intake kit? Is this one you've made or a kit you can get somewhere. I'm just starting to look into what they consist of.

I'm near Cincinnati so its a bit of a drive for me.

Mine is a custom made stainless steel intake, including the proper sensor bung and crank case bungs, plus quick release clamps, proper mounting hardware, and a water bypass option. I don't believe any are being mass produced right now. It's a pipe going from the throttle body to the fender well. Actually thinking about it, it might not work for yours, it'll work for the e-tec engines, not the ecotecs. For anyone else seeing this, this is what the one im selling looks like installed:

Does that fit the 2009. Looks nice. Do you have to remove the inner fender or something to get enough air in there?
Or is the filter down in the open?

Thats why I said it may or may not work for an 09, depends on your engine. If you can take a picture of your engine bay that'd be great. Basically if it says "ecotec" on your valve cover it wont work, but if it says "e-tec" it should. You have to remove the air filter box and intake resonator of course to make room for the cold air intake piping and cone filter. The cone filter is down in the fender well, you have to remove (or very skillfully move) the fender well liner and the filter goes in there.
I would not completely remove the liner though.
A high-pressure area builds up in front of the radiator when the car is at speed. This air flows around the radiator into the fender cavities to create a source of high-pressure ambient air for induction. This is an old hot-rodder's trick and is done on purpose by manufacturers. Air passing over a surface creates a low pressure area on the surface, so if you then put a hole in the bottom fender or remove the liner, you are in fact creating a low pressure area. This will actually pull air OUT of the fender, not into it. If you don't believe the manufacturer knew what they were doing, go ahead and cut a hole, but fashion some sort of scoop facing the high-speed air stream.
What a lot of Aveo owners (lincluding me) that do not have fog lights have done is actually drill out the honeycomb pattern where the fog lights go to allow more air to flow directly into the fender well. This is different from cutting a hole in the bottom of the liner or removing it as it does not create a low pressure zone to pull air out, but rather exposes the filter to more cooler, faster, moving air. If we can see a closer shot of your fog light housing and area around it we can tell you if it would be a benefit or not.
Unfortunently my knowledge is only good for 1st gen Aveos. If you look around, there may be some "how tos" on cold air intakes (cai), ram/warm air intakes, and GOAT intakes. They all should give you a good idea of whats involved.

Thanks for the info. I'm familiar with the ram air intakes and how they work just not how they go on newer cars. I'll take some pics and post them. I'd like to add this but from what I understand there is a bit of a difference with the intake. I'll take pics though and post them soon.

unforuntently my CAI wont work with yours :cry: oh well, saves you $100 :lol: But it does look like you can still do a GOAT intake and drill out

Nice, I didn't trade anything in but I got mine for 10,400 w/ 7 years bumper-bumper warrantee and oil changes for life. We don't have sales tax in Alaska.

Nice. I didn't get the warrantee and oil changes but I did get 0% financing. I though I got a pretty good deal. They didn't have to many left because of the CFC deal. I save enough money with not driving my Yukon or my trade in that it pays for itself. I used to put $60+ a week in the other cars but my Aveo was $22 to fill up and has lasted more than a week. Do the math and its more than my $150 payment.

Yeah, that's not bad at all. I think you still get the 2 year bumper to bumper and 5 year powertrain warrantee from GM though right?

yr 36000 btb and 5 yr 100000 powertrain. ...which works for me.
They offered the extended one but I couldn't imagine there is much to go wrong with so few gadgets on it. I got the extended on the wifes car because it has all the fancy stuff on it. I couldn't see another 900 with as little as this one has. Especiallyu with the 100k powertrain on it already.

I got my '07 for $8,900 with no sales tax. Only the standard 3 yrs warranty because it was pretty much barebones so what other than powertrain could go wrong lol. The car wouldn't be that hard to repair...hopefully lol. Bought it under farm so I didnt have to pay tax and I get the GM discount because my grandfather retired from GM. So choosing a GM car was obvious.. and I ened up with an aveo lol. I love my little icelandic blue aveo, not going to lie lol.

nice, i love my aveo too, i think i will only buy chevy lol

when i gradurate and if i got my projects done, ill be getting my camaro
