hey guys i want to put on a remote start on my 04 aveo with manual trans with all power options.
im geting a deal on a cheap prostart one, http://www.autostart.ca/prostart/prod-en_CT-3200.php
how hard is it to install, and what else would i need to get everything working.
does aveo's keys have transponders in em?
I was told that every year except 07's have transponders. When I installed one on my 07, I didn't need a by-pass. Mine is an automatic SVM and it took me about 3 hours to install it.
Actually I have an engine blocking system on my 07 aveo and transponder car keys. So I had a bypass installed along with the remote start car alarm system. I have a Tomahawk car alarm and it's the second Tomahawk I've had. Not sure if they are sold in North America.

you can do that, or try removing the steering column cover. if there are wires running to the actual lock cylinder and not just the ignition switch, it most likely has one.
See if you can get a cheapy key cut at your local store for 2 bucks. If they can cut it try to start the car with it, if it starts, no bypass necessary. If it cranks and no starty, bypass needed.
Yes a cheapy key is also a great idea but aluminum foil is still cheaper if you have it of course. :P
i will just get a blank key cut and see if that will start my car, if it does it makes my life easyer, if not i wasted 2$ on geting the key made.Quote:

so if i understand correctly i have a 5 choices with a bypass for the transponder?
There are different types of bypass modules. Some are universal and require a spare key with the transponder be placed in a box and that is how it is bypassed. Others are manufacturer / vehicle specific and they "learn" the data stream that needs to be sent by the transponder, and then sends that code when the remote start is activated. Some of these are usable in more than one type of GM and may be more expensive, but will be able to be used in another GM if you move the RS. First figure out if you need one. then get a vehicle specific, not a universal, as you are leaving the key in your vehicle..and a spare transponder key is like 50-75 bucks.
BTW, make sure you hook up the hood pin. Don't be lazy, this is a safety measure. You don't want to be missing fingers if the remote start is activated while you are working on your engine. Another thing, depending on the range you want, you can hide the antennea under the dash and make it more stealth, or for max range mount it on the windshield in the middle near the rearview, tuck the wire in the headliner and down the A pillar. Wrap your harnesses with good quality electrical tape before you install, when you are done and tuck it up in the dash, you will never know it is there. Our vehicle has two parking light circuits, so you may need a relay for that feature. Make sure you connect the tach signal wire even if it says it can run in tachless mode. If you don't it may not start in cold weather.
ya there are 2 transponders for the aveo, tb-350 needs a key in side, and HH-T100 is one that doesn't need one.Quote:

Relays are used for many things, reversing polarity, powering multiple devices from a single trigger, providing more current than the trigger can provide, etc. Your remote start probably has built-in relays for most functions, but some of the options may need a relay. Generally the auxilary functions only provide 200-500mA of current, lights may draw more than that, so you use a 30-40A relay, trigger it with the 200mA signal, but can provide up to 30A of juice. I had to use relays for my parking lights as there are seperate left and right circuits, and relays were needed. I also needed one for the clutch bypass. Mine was a combo alarm, so I also had to add them for the horn honk and dome light supervison. Read the manual and it should state the output and if a relay is recommended. I will look for my diagram for the parking lights if you are hooking them up.
found a bypass i need, its a idatalink ads-tb-gd, it is 60$ at a local futureshop, but they don't sell em, so i will most likely have to pay 30$ for em to also install it, and they might not want to install it with out doing an install of the remote starter for which the charge another 150$, in other words, im starting to look for friends who work at futureshop, too bad my boi quit his job as an installer

did you get a valet key with your car? Most people use the valet key if you choose to go that route.

Good stuff, I have a transponder bypass that doesn't need a key for sale ($50) if anyone wants it. Sorry, I'm done hijacking now... :lol:

so now im thinking that my car does not have a transponder there for i don't need a bypass to bypass the transponder
i alrady emailed aveorob, hopefully he will shine some light on this prob.
UPDATE: its installed, and works, but i did not bypass the clatch, sonow i have to push the clutch in, and press a puton to start the car, will try to figer out what the prob is tomorow, and the oem alarm and keyless does not work when the car thinks the key is in the ignition.

as for the oem alar and keyless, this fixed the problem:
In the drivers kick panel find a bright yellow plug. next to it is a green plug with a pink wire, cut this wire in half. then your keyless and alarm will work even with the key in the ignition or remote start on, and best thing the alarm still works so you don't lose anything.
