As others have said, the biggest freeway fuel savings come from slowing down.
He has the standard, I have the automatic. I never speed and I did a fairly extensive milage check driving everywhere at 55MPH it made no change at all. The sticker on the window when I bought this car said the EPA was 51 MPG and I think 45 or so city...pretty big diff from what it should have been. I on cold days will only get 20-21 MPG down the highway but thats running at around 4000 RMP of course because on a cold day well the transmission likes to stay in 2nd or 3rd gear been that way since it was new also.

Doing new mileage check with these camshaft actuator screens removed maybe they have been an issues since day one IDK, and I dropped it at the tire shop this moring to have the alignment spec'd so I can shim up the rear axle tires and put caster/camber kits in the front end. I know there's 7 MPG being eaten up by resistance traveling down the highway.
