The rpms sound about right for that speed, but 25 mpg seems very low. Is this a recent occurance, or have you always gotten 25 mpg?
I just bought it yesterday and filled car up I drive around 160-200 miles a day for work figured this car be good a gas. The car said average 25.0 I figured it was messed up so I refilled car up and it got 25 mpgs.
The guy I bought car from said he just had injectors cleaned and recall on spark plugs/boots replaced not to long ago I noticed when I'm n third gear and get to about 3000 rpms car acts like it cuts out all than picks back up running fine
For reference:
My 2010 Aveo5 would average about 38mpg with the cruise at 65mph...but that was after the car was warmed up, without the AC on, and the tires at 40psi. I could easily get down to mid 20's when I got up around 80mph.
My car also had a flat spot in the mid range but it was not as pronounced as you describe.
If i stayed that slow (i'm not hypermiler material) i get in the low 30s for mpg. I have an 09 too, which my understanding the 10+ has a slightly taller 5th gear So your really only talking 1-2 mpg difference between years, but its mostly in technique.
What kind of gas do you use? I have found that if i use bp, shell or sunoco I get much better mileage that using sheetz or getgo (both local discount gas). I have noticed almost a 4-5 mpg difference running the cheap stuff.
I have a 2009 with a manual transmission and 105K miles. I drive 120 miles per day mainly highway and I get 33-35 MPG and do not go much above 65 MPH
I use Murphy gas I just found out today my odometer is off by 5mph so if I set cruise at 70 I'm really doin 75 I set cruise at 65 n got 34mpg than ran into stop lights n dropped down to 26-28mpg
are your strictly going by some sort of gauge? or are you calculating at fill ups/mileage?
at moment im going by the average it shows on dash havent filled up and checked my own calculations ive only had car since monday n just filled up once
How often does the dash gauge reset? Does it register every "trip" (from engine start), or is it cumulative?
Those dash MPG gauges are usually off by some percentage, but usually no more than 5-10%. Total tank miles divided by total gallons at fill up time is the best measurement. (Note: you have to pump until tank is FULL & the pump clicks off for this to work.)
It keeps calculating till u reset it manually.
Well I hand calculated my mileage and average around 27-29 that's doing 75mph on highway and some city driving also is this normal plus I've noticed in third gear when I get up close to 3k rpm seems engine has a flat spot at first I said it cuts out but noticed its just like a flat spot what could b causing this at moment it has 52k miles on car.
27-29 sounds normal to me for 75 mph on the freeway, with some city thrown in there.
Official MPG ratings for the '09:
2009 - hatchback and sedan
(City / Combined / Highway)
5-speed . . . . . . 27 / 30 / 34 MPG (US) - EPA
automatic . . . . . 25 / 28 / 34 MPG (US) - EPA
from http://www.aveoforum.com/forum/f106/...u-s-epa-10139/
You haven't said if you've got th automatic or the manual.
As others have said, the biggest freeway fuel savings come from slowing down.
I have a manual transmission
I bought this 2009 brand new got 24 miles to the gallon hwy when it was new gets the same now, I tried premium gas did not help, using all synthetic oils now and K&N airfilter still the same as it was brand new.
Dealer told me when new just needed to be broke in LOL and it will get better. NOT
2008 5 spd.
I have an ultraguage and I get 25-26 in town (I like to rev it as well). About 32-34 hwy
He has the standard, I have the automatic. I never speed and I did a fairly extensive milage check driving everywhere at 55MPH it made no change at all. The sticker on the window when I bought this car said the EPA was 51 MPG and I think 45 or so city...pretty big diff from what it should have been. I on cold days will only get 20-21 MPG down the highway but thats running at around 4000 RMP of course because on a cold day well the transmission likes to stay in 2nd or 3rd gear been that way since it was new also.
Doing new mileage check with these camshaft actuator screens removed maybe they have been an issues since day one IDK, and I dropped it at the tire shop this moring to have the alignment spec'd so I can shim up the rear axle tires and put caster/camber kits in the front end. I know there's 7 MPG being eaten up by resistance traveling down the highway.
at 70-75 miles I get 40 ease.35 city 356 miles to 10 gallons of gas and 440 on I 75 also10 gallons of gas.
