      Sad News and Advice

      Really Sad News

On my way home the night before I drifted off the road (tired) and whacked a street sign. Here is the extent of the damange:

      1) Missing mirror, 60
      2) Front Passenger Door, 300
      3) Rear Passenger Door, 400
      5) Trailing Arm, 500

The part that concerns me the trailing arm holding the passenger side rear wheel is twisted causing the rear wheel to cant inwards about 5 to 10 degrees. The Tire is rubbing into the suspension cover. It's was hell to drive home and really squirrely.

Of course pictures are worth a lot:

So here is several game plans and I am asking for advice:

      1) I needed to repaint the car and I was going to do some mod work and pay for this out of pocket:
      a) replace both doors and trailing arm.
      b) Put on new skirts
      c) repaint

      2) Call insurance, junk the car and buy a new/used car

      3) Call Insurance, and try and get it fixed.

The hood was damaged from a deer I was in the process of getting that fixed. It has 147K miles and needed new tires.

      Any suggestions?

      brian

If you really loved the car i say get it fixed!! Insurance is a great thing especially if you have full coverage! Im sorry about your accident hope all is well but if you feel it isnt worth it then go ahead and call insurance and junk it and get a new/used car, best of luck!

I do love my car. It's been with through thick and thin. My concern is the trailing arm. Is the cost of that going to put me over the top? Blue book is about 2K to sell to a private party. I guess what I am asking, is it really worth fixing it knowing there is going to be some issues around the trailing arm?

I have been looking on EBAY and most junkyard searches say CALL$. So I am hesitant. I don't have a good picture of it, I think the frame is damaged that holds the passenger side bushing. At least I can see it better on that side through the wheel well compare to the other side.

Unless you know the secret search key words I can't find doo doo on EBAY. All it get is the bushings.

car-part.com lists the rear axle beam at A & R auto parts in Duncan, SC for $115.

The have several listed, so they would possibly have all the other parts you need (multiple searches though).

based on your pictures i can't tell if your unibody is damaged, the axle would come with the mount on both sides of the bushing.

the only way to tell if the unibody is damaged is to X it out. I can explain that if needed.
