So I officially hate my car.
I'm beginning to despise my aveo with a passion, really. When I bought this car I was just your typical teenage boy that only cared about piling my friends in a car with our skateboards and going from place to place skating without wasting much gas. Now that my maturity has developed more and my interests have grown with it, I've decided that I love cars.... just cars in general, muscle, imports, luxury... whatever it is really... So my life will soon revolve around cars as most of you know, my dad owns a 38 year old custom car shop. Which I will be taking over. I'm going to school for auto-body and auto-mechanics for the next few years, and am very very interested in the import scene, I'm in the local scene, but tonight, after racing a STOCK honda accord and getting my ass handed to me, I realized that this car really is just a cheap daewoo econo box that looks cool and there is nothing I can do about it. I want a new car, a REAL import. Any suggestions on what I should do? I'm seriously extremely bummed out right now.

Re: So I officially hate my car.
A honda accord is a much larger car with a larger engine. It's hardly a reasonable comparison. Of course the aveo is a cheap econo-box car, if you couldn't tell that before you bought you have a lot more to learn about cars. The aveo is a fantastic little fun car to drive, so it's not the fastest car on the block, but you should've figured that out on the test drive. Give the car a chance.

Re: So I officially hate my car.
Sounds like you have a good start on the Road you have chosen.
BUT...
Maturity? You need some more.
Your life will soon revolve around cars? What have you been doing for the last 10 years?
I would bet that your Dad would have loved to teach you the ropes as you grew up.
A REAL import? You own an Import.
In my opinion, a true "Car Enthusiast" would not be whining. They would have already made the change to a different vehicle or be figuring out how to get the best potential out of their current vehicles.
Sorry, but this post just is annoying me.

Re: So I officially hate my car.
Well, well, you got beat up by a Honda.
So you want to go fast and kick some Import ass, for about 6 grand you can do it.
Go to your Chevy dealer and buy a 2.4L supercharged crate engine and drop it in your Areo!!!!!!
Look I can fly!!!!!!
P.S.
Your still cheaper then that Honda.

something tells me your dads shop is going to be in trouble. with an attitude like that.
first off, a 38 year old custom car shop i am sure has fabbed as many parts over time as you could imagine making for your aveo.
second, there are thousands of stock cars that are really fast off the line, and going straight. There are basic family sedans pushing almost 300 hp now. Take that accord to autoX and see how it does compared to the aveo, you will be more even if you add turns.
getting rid of the aveo because it is not a race car is actually stupid. I bought mine because i am building another car as a race car. maybe you should consider that. It seems younger kids dont understand the one car doesn't fill every shoe.

""I realized that this car really is just a cheap daewoo econo box that looks cool and there is nothing I can do about it.""
Dude, you only paid 10k for it...your just realizing that now?
And did you see that other thread about how meaningless a street race is as far as determining if your car is fast or not?
Your young and you'll have lots of cars in your life, especially with the shop situation you mentioned.
You aveo is helping you save for those better cars right now.
Start embracing your place in life. Hating your aveo will only cause you to beat on it and waste your money.
How fast was that honda if they had to stop for gas before they got home and you didnt?
And you mentioned there's "nothing you can do"
I've seen plenty of speed helping mods on this site.
Concentrate on gaining all the motor knowledge you can, and going fast in any car will follow.
Not sure if your is the auto, but Mines the 5speed, I can drive it so that its plenty fast.
And then if I feel the need for speed, I can go get my other car (that I can afford because of the aveo) and lay rubber all throughout the countryside. I get lucky in my city, that rural area's are only a short drive away.
(and not worry about tickets pedestrians and traffic) - 3 GOOD reasons not to street race in urban area's.
-
Re: So I officially hate my car.
Save up for an R8. That's a real import and I doubt you'll grow to despise it any time soon. For now, hookup with an autocross club and have real fun learning what it takes to make your little Aveo go faster.
PS Please stop street racing. It's dangerous and foolish.

Re: So I officially hate my car.
I appreciate the replies, but to some of you, when I bought the car, I was only 16 years old and showed NO interest about cars at all, I had a ford escort before and totaled it because I didn't care about it and thought I could drift in the snow. So that shows you how uninterested I was in cars. So I'm sure my dad didn't expect me to become interested. I paid 6 grand that I got for my escort from the insurance company for the aveo... I was told that that was extremely cheap for a repo job, I drove it, thought it was fast because the throttle must have been pretty tight, and so I wanted it. (I was a dumbass little kid.) So now I'm suffering from it. I've recently been looking around to see how much I can get for my aveo and get a different car for... I think I pretty much made up my mind about it after the research I have done on this car and this motor and the things I have learned on this website. If someone wants to fix up this car, they gotta be DAMN good at fabrication, or have a LOT of money. i can't name 5 parts they make for the aveo... which is sad because I love the little car, it has a LOT of sentimental value.... More than anyone can imagine... But, changes have to come eventually, and I think its time for a car change to come...

Re: So I officially hate my car.
Well alright then.. C-ya!
Maybe someone can get a great deal on decent little used Aveo, and you can go tool around town in an easy to own 'real import', that shows everybody that your the fastest.
There's a sweet catalog of parts and a ton of vendors just waiting...also lots of traffic stops wastes of time at court and the DMV and the extra work for the extra gas and insurance. I just say this because -- 'been there done that'-- I had to grow the hard way and figure maybe I can save you the hassles. When I wrote posts that expressed idea's like yours (well it was a little before the time of posts) but anyhow,.. I didn't have a good idea as to what real hot rodding was. We all want to see you grow to be a cool hot rodder, not an annoying kid racer. Waiting to wreck. The worst way to have to learn is with a wreck that results in someone losing a life. Sounds like you know a little about wrecks with your Escort exp. So dont go off and learn the hard way. If you do...don't say you weren't warned.
Its hard to tell a persons character from a few posts, so maybe I got you wrong.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say your a smart kid, just coming off wrong in what your posting. You'll keep it shiney and on all 4 wheels.
Most of all remember to Have fun whatever you buy and do!
-
Re: So I officially hate my car.
if you were so uninterested in cars, why would you try to drift it in snow? thats not something someone who wasn't interest would try to do.
I think you are missing the point entirely of what make the aveo a good car. but that is your choice. no one is forcing you to drive it.
5 things the make for the aveo?
1. suspension- springs, performance struts and coilovers.
2. bracing- strut bars, sway bars, chassis bars, undercarriage bars
3. short shift kits- available either new imported for europe, through xiogary, or as modified by me
4. Exhaust- headers for @ $350-400 shipped. with a choice of styles. the rest of the exhaust can be custom made at any performance shop. around here that costs about 300-400 bucks. (about the same as buying a "bolt on" system
5. lightweight pulleys- for the engine to increase hp crank pulley and cam pulleys are available.
6. cams- custom ground, lightweight etc. they are out there.
7. lightweight flywheel and performance clutches- out of europe again which is about the same as shipping from california.
8. LSD- there is a shop in europe who has quaiffe diffs installs on f16 transmission. this puts power down to both wheels.
9. learning to drive- any car is faster with actual racing experience and instruction.
10. big brake upgrades- out of singapore
11. aftermarket taillights, headlights, etc.
12. cold air intake
13. engine swaps- while not a buy and bolt on, its been done, and documented. you could pay a shop to do it.
14. turbo- while again not bolt on, a good turbo tuner shop would be able to custom build a stand alone turbo system in the car for $4000 to as much as you want to spend.
15. light weigh wheels/wheels in general- same 4x100 bolt pattern as thousands of other cars.
16. shall i go on?
you could even buy an engine on ebay for $600 and dismantle it, order custom pistons, port and polish the head. port match the intake and exhaust and tune it to get 200hp.. (if you know what you are doing, and adding some of the things above like cams, header intake, etc.
maybe you are upset you dont have 20 brands of the same bolt on parts available when compared to a honda. and when you search ebay you dont get 200 of the same item over and over, but if your dad owns a shop you have no excuses. And maybe honda parts are available cheap, but the quality of those parts are also cheap. for a reall honda setup you have to pay the same amount you would pay for the same quality aveo parts that are available. but since you were uninterested in cars before you haven;t hitt he better use higher quality parts threshold yet.
But again it is your choice, don't come on here telling us how bad your car is. we all drive them, we know what they are capable of.

please trade in the aveo and buy a pos civic, please

Re: So I officially hate my car.
Your all talking about me being immature, but I've noticed the aveo community is hating big time on hondas... I have a bunch of friends that drive civics and accords and fits, they all love my aveo and I love their hondas. It's not the car that matters, its the person driving it. People on here try to put civic drivers into a stereotype which is just not right.
I want a tuner car... Not an econo box. That is my decision. I figured I would ask your suggestions on what I should get. I love aveos. But I do not have access to any of the types of shops that you mentioned off anywhere around here. Nobody works with turbos around here, nobody fabricates things for four bangers around here. I need something that I can get parts for without having to spend tons of money getting them made when I don't even know if it's going to be a good quality part. I'm sorry if I offended some of you with saying I hate my aveo. But thats just it, it's MY aveo, I can hate it if I want to.
-
Re: So I officially hate my car.
I have quite a few Honda driving friends too, they put a lot and I mean a lot of money into them. Yes there are lots of parts out there, but it'll still cost you to make then fast too.

lol a honda isnt an econo box
look, ive mentioned before that i dont stereotype honda, but you stereotyped the aveo by calling it a pos econobox. Based on my personal expericences, many people i have run into whom own any kind of import, many of them being hondas, integras and wrx's stereotype chevy and daewoo when they have never even driven them. Just as i had proof in another thread when several fit owners critised the aveo for its handleing due to the poor driving of the driver. They were being stereotypical of daewoo, chevy and any person driving an aveo, but i dont care. You couldnt call us stereotypical when you have just made those types of comments
everyone hates something, and everyone is stereotypical, including everyone on this forum, and me and you
''i can't name 5 parts they make for the aveo...'' <---- i still dont understand this, xiaogory sells 10 different parts alone
anyways, if i may, i am stertypical towards people whom think imports are superior has you have mentioned by buying an import and non other. Ever think of an mustang, maybe a cobalt ss or an older M3 BMW?
And if you are going to a school such a one you are entering now, why not work on the aveo engine and turn it into something UNIQUE and special?
Again, how is a honda not an econobox eithier? They aint no sports cars or such, but there is a group of people, a rather large one at that, that support the brand can can do some amazing things with their cars. Though, many people sterotype different car brands as being superior that that of any car, and buy the car knowing that parts will be mass produced.
I think that one has to dedicate themselves to customize a car, no matter what the cost. Any car you will buy will take time and work, import or anyother
I guess you could call every auto part maker and every shop owner a strerotype for only making parts for hondas and imports and no others, but yet you will fold and trade your car in to give in to the sterotype that you do not agree with, i am confused greatly by this......

and just as rabbit and larsbud mentioned, it will cost much money with any car you try to turn into a race car
someone i know has a 240 running 9.50's and he has put 14k in the engine alone, which would be about around the ballpark to make an aveo run a respectiful time such as that

Re: So I officially hate my car.
Drive a modified import everybody has, ppl go bleh....
Drive a modified aveo nobody has, ppl whoa wtf! NICE!
Your talking about making the Aveo fast?? Drop in a 2.0 like i did, how fast is it now? I raced my friend's 2005 RSX (not the type s, stock with a cold air intake system) and were extremely close, he pulls in front of me by about a hood lenght from a dead start to 160 kph and that car has 160 hp (a little more with the cai).
Not to mention i still have my stock 1.6 ultra restrictive exhaust system, maybe i should drop 500 buks for a complete 2.5 inch system then whoop that rsx's ass to god knows where.
This car can be fast, you just gotta know what to do.

Re: So I officially hate my car.
Sorry guys... I've been emotional due to serious lady problems. And the race loss seriously didn't help... =/ I feel like a real ass now.
So I've talked to my buddys in my tunerz club... And we've made some plans for the aveo. The question is, will the daewoo axles hold up? Thats a question I read in one of these boards recently and it scared me. I don't want to drop more money into this thing with fear of it not holding up to speed... I was just hoping for some more comforting... Not being flamed. I apologize again in case I offended anyone...
-
Re: So I officially hate my car.
lol its all good man, i just wanted to bust ya balls
the daewoo axle would hold up, ive never seen any problems that it would not, though there are some people who would disagree. After the 2 wrecks ive had, the car is like a little tank. Ive really never seen any major problems with daewoo in general, i loved my lanos. Of course, you have those who hate on cheap cars and say that daewoo is a pos company, but really, the only problem people have is that they never change their timing belts, which would destroy most engines in any car
i found out that if anyone did happen to destory their axle, they are cheap to buy and install through the dealership, but again, many people have put turbos in and a swaped 2.0 has not caused any problems

o yeah did ya read that on a gm forum, theres one thread that pops up on google to where people are hating on the aveo, that thread is complete bull**** lol
i doubt most people on there have even driven a daewoo :|
-
Re: So I officially hate my car.
Nah I read it on here somewhere, talking about turbo charging them and a dude is wondering if the "cheap little daewoo axle would hold up to it"
-
Re: So I officially hate my car.
if you are worried about the axles. you could always get custom axles.. i think raxles(sp?) axles will make custom anything.
-
Re: So I officially hate my car.
If existence's optra can hold 240 whp on a daily basis, then your aveo surely can as im pretty use they use the same axels.
-
Re: So I officially hate my car.
yeah there is no need to worry
-
Re: So I officially hate my car.
If i were you id be more worried about blowing the tranny then the axels, existence blew 2 trannies using the same set of axels. The tranny will go WAY before the axels do.
-
Re: So I officially hate my car.
2 trannys....that was costly

Re: So I officially hate my car.
WHat is the difference between a Tuner and an Econo-box?
The owner? The money invested? The choices made.
Google Fly-N-Box or Slugmobile (Gus Mahon)
Some of my Heroes from the Past.
I prefer being different than following the crowd. Domestics.
If you prefer to keep your car, post here. We will help you build it up, one part at a time. Unless you have $5000 to drop on her.
You want power? Spend some cash. Let's go What's first?
Intake or Exhaust? Where you want to start?
And lets not forget the few of us that have modified Honda parts to fit on Aveos. Probably get cutting on my 96-01 Accord Intake tomorrow.

Re: So I officially hate my car.
Ok since everyone has beat the stop hating Aveo thing. I want to mention something that is likely the real issue. If your worried about getting your ego bruised because your car was beat by another car you have alot of growing up to do. If you think your new honda will be the fastest thing on the road...well it won't. Fast and the furious was a movie man. Its not like its real. You can sell you Aveo and get a Honda or whatever tuner you want. Pour a ton of money into it and then when you think your ready I'll beat you with one of my cars that isn't an import.
Listen man do whatever makes you happy but realize this right now. If you let your ego rule how and what you drive you'll end up in a box. That is a fact and I have seen it to many times. I love cars too. I have a few that are scary fast. But if someone wants to spend the money they can make some cars faster than them. I'm ok with that. Sure its fun and an adrenaline rush to win a race but do it safely. Take it to a track.
And as much as you mod some cars they are still not made for some of the top end speed you'll end up at.
Just be carefull whatever you decide.
-
Re: So I officially hate my car.
It's not really my ego I'm worried about, it's my family's reputation... My whole family has raced SOMETHING. It's in my blood, big time. I know your all going to say if you want to race then race a race car... But there aren't any race tracks or race cars around here... I live in a ****ty little town with a bunch of county roads. If someone wants to race around here, we go to one of our abandoned roads and race, the cops are mainly cool with it if we keep it safe and there aren't people around and if its late at night or early in the morning... There are always mustangs that put a new exaust tip on their car and they think it has 500whp.. So when they try to race us they get sadly awakened... Well, my buddy with the german dodge neon, or my buddy with the civic that is... I haven't tried to race a stang yet and I'm pretty sure I'd get raped if I did. Oh I didn't give an explanation... Back when my dad raced, or my uncle, grandfather and so on and so forth, there was a bigger racing scene around here, everything is closed down now, which sucks... Okay so I already got a short ram intake, and I've got an exaust system, I suppose the next thing is a cat-less exhaust manifold? Idk, I've got those two things done, so whats next?
-
Re: So I officially hate my car.
Thats truely a great question...what IS next?
-
Re: So I officially hate my car.
wider high performance tires will help you get off the line. with lighter wheels. for racing. go with a 15" and a 195/50r15.
is your car an automatic or manual? did you answer that? either way practice launching.
and look to the list i put on the first page. most of those things add performance, maybe not power directly.
-
Re: So I officially hate my car.
do what i did.....buy a G60 Corrado. then install a whistle tip and go WOO WOOOOOO!! :)
-
Re: So I officially hate my car.
You can make an Aveo handle better and go faster than when you bought it. But I'd say its gonna be tough building the car up so it actually becomes something people have a hard time catching.
Here is a great read for someone into street racing from the thread:

--shave your throttle body-- take the intake off and use a dremel tool to thin that thick intake wall down.
--lower the car-- it always helps with handling. i put apex springs on my car, and was able to stay on my buddies bumper around 90 degree turns. he had to buy coilovers to do that for his focus
--wider rims-- i upgraded from stock 6inch wide rims to 7inch, and the i couldnt believe how different the car felt.
--build yourself a Cold-air intake-- instead of that ram air, build a CAI. i felt a big difference after upgrading mine. plus the ram air rubbed through my coolant line :(
--upgrade Camshaft-- not quite a DIY upgrade, but you said your dad owned a shop right?
--Clutch Kit-- shoot through those RPMs faster with a lightweight flywheel, and upgraded clutch kit.
--bodykit/weight reduction-- those bodykits arent only rice, their lighter than stock too.
--add sponser stickers-- each one will give you 5HP at the wheel ;)
--softer tires-- better grip/bite and quicker responce. also think about upgradeing to lower profile tires, or simply stretch some normal tires. its unpopular but stretch will eliminate sidewall flex, and essentially give you a much cheaper low-pro performance.

Re: So I officially hate my car.
Well whatever you do be carefull. You say its not ego but then kinda prove it is. I highly doubt you father and grandfather will care how fast your car was if you get killed or go to jail because you got someone killed. Just remember that before launching your car or getting talked into a race. If don't believe me ask you father. Ask him how many people he knew that where stupid and died racing. ...I'm not saying not to race I'm saying don't do it as a big macho thing or something. There will always be someone out there with more money in there car than you etc.
As for the Aveo...it may not be a car that has a ton of performance aftermarket parts availible for it yet. But that may change with the 2009 styling change (hopefully) plus the more people trying to build them the better off you'll be to have the parts later. You said earlier or in you picture post you liked the Aveo because it was different. But you didn't like it because of the race...One option suggested already is an engine swap. I'm sure people on here could help you through that and sounds like you have the access to the shop. So why not go that route. I'm thinking along the same lines later (after my warrenty is out) Or you can follow the turbo builds and see what you can do about turboing your Aveo (something I may do sooner than later) Its all up to you.
If your dead set on switching cars then by all means go for it. But remember why you liked the Aveo was because it was different. If you get something just like everyone else you may dissapointed too. Sure you may be able to get more parts right away but who knows.
Just think it over before you do anything. If you can do alot of the work yourself in school then that is cool. You have the Aveo now. Anything you buy you'll have to start from scratch and have the cost of building it up too.

OK I have a couple questons what does grinding your intake do and how do you do it. Is there a how to somewhere?
If the stickers work I'm slapping a ton of them on there ...lol
Lastly what do you mean by stretching tires?
BTW sorry I am kinda hijacking the thread.

Re: So I officially hate my car.
i havent checked the 09 to see how bad it is yet. but you would need to take it off since it points straight down. but you remove the intake. and there is a ridge where the opening to the throttle body is. you shave that to remove the ridge. do not, do not, do not sand/grind where the throttle plate sits.
stretching tires means putting a narrow tire on a wider rim for example. if you have a 205/40r16 tire it is @ 8" wide. so to stretch it you would want an 8.5-10 inch rim (depending on the amount of stretch you want, too much wont gain performance)
