      Speedometer broke

Well last night I hopped on interstate 81 to go see fireworks. On the way home, I noticed my speed stopped working, stuck at 60. This morning I went to go get some things for a cookout I'm having today. The speedo is moving, but always goes back to 60 at a stop. What should I do to fix this, junkyard speedometer? And if I get a junkyard speedo, will my odometer reading change ? Or is it controlled by the ecu?

Automatic or manual? Because an automatic has a few more hoops to jump through before it gets to the IPC.

Automatic. The speedo is moving but it's out of calibration, the odometer is moving fine. One mile up the road is registering as one mile

See if you can get your hands on a Tech 2 scan tool (or an equivalent aftermarket scan tool that can do component testing )so you can see how bad off the speedometer is; my old Plymouth had a built in gauge test that swept the needles to predetermined points to check operation.

It's bad. Car is parked and off as I'm typing this and the speedo is reading 85. The odometer is still working so I don't think it's the speed sensor, think it's just the gauge.

What I'm really trying to ask here is this. Is the odometer memory held by the cluster or is it held by the ecu? If it's held by the ecu, I'll go get a cluster and it's over, if it's remembered by the cluster, I'll do a careful dissaembly of a cluster at a junkyard , switch in the good speedo and be done.

So should I go to the dealership with my new cluster? Or is this something a shop with the proper computers could do cheaper. (Edit: made an appointment for Wednesday to have my drl recall fixed and they said they could take a look.)
