For those who drive in snow
When you play around in parking lots, ebrake turns, reverse donuts, that kinda thing... have you ever lost any gears?
I only did a few turns and when I left, I had to do so in 3rd. 1st, 2nd, and reverse were all locked out. This fixed itself after I drove about a block. What I noticed though is a lot of snow buildup on the transmission side of my engine. I suspect the linkage was plugged up by the snow.
Anyone else have this happen to them?
Re: For those who drive in snow
nope but i guess it is possible
Re: For those who drive in snow
a block of ice or a rick might have locked the linkage. If it was ice, it probably melted, or rock fell. It's a long shot though.... The position of the linkage on the transmission makes this very unlikely but not impossible.
Re: For those who drive in snow
down here in southern ny we havent gotten any snow but based on past deep snow winters i havent had any problems. then again i'm not doing any e-brake stunts.
Re: For those who drive in snow
For anyone driving in snow, do some J turns or just reverse donuts. When you do, pop the hood and look in the engine bay, you'll see a bunch of snow built up in there. If I lived a place which actually snowed regularly, I would have to do something about it. I don't have this problem when spinning the car around on dry or wet pavement.
Re: For those who drive in snow
actually when i said we didnt get any snow all of a sudden i got proved wrong! we had a storm friday that left 12 inches and another one today for another 5 inches. good thing i took the cutting deck off my lawn tractor and put on my snow blade. took me 25 minutes to plow the drive way as opposed to the hour it used to take me to shovel it by hand.

I live in Alaska and drive an 09' Aveo5. I mess around and drift in it all the time and haven't had any problems. Perhaps your gear oil is low? it might be sloshing from the spins or something? I have no idea.
