towing small trailer

Hello all, I do not own an Aveo but my daughter owns a 2008. I know nothing about these cars! She is graduating high school soon and for a gift I am thinking about giving her my little boat trailer and buying her either a small canoe or a two person kayak so she can go fishing / swimming with her friends. My question is there a bolt on type trailer hitch for these little cars? This is the first place I am checking figuring other owners would know best! Its a very light trailer and she will be towing it less than a mile from our campground to the local fishing / swimming hole. thanks in advance..... Jeff

I have a 2006 aveo and got a hitch kit no-problem. It took about two hours of under the car DIY. I don't have lights wired for mine and I plan to get that working soon. I have a lightweight jet ski that I want to tow.

I think you have a good plan and yes a canoe trailer would be a good use for the aveo.

Curtmfg.com has hitches for both the sedan and hatch. Go there and find which model you need, then check amazon.

is it a hatchback or sedan, jiga? there are 2000lb rated hitches for the hatchback because the frame is closer to the axle there, if its the rarer sedan, still probably one that fits. i have a 2000lb hitch on my car it is bolted on well, it triangulates and ties into the tow ring welded onto the stock hatch car. the sedan, being a longer distance to the frame is a different story... but anyways towing say 500lbs with a, say 9% tongue weight, that would be 45lbs on the hitch. the gas tank, quite close to the axle weighs about 70lbs full of gas so at that weight it appears totally doable. I respond here because I'm researching into towing 750lbs up mountain passes with the stock radiator, so I got the hitch installed and the plug and play 4 pin wiring kit.

I have a 2010 Hatchback. I installed a Curt Mfg hitch. I have pulled a small clamshell trailer from Michigan to Florida and back a couple times with no issues. Get the Curt Wiring harness while your at it, makes wiring the Aveo quick and easy.

I own a 2010 Chev Aveo5 LS hatchback. I found my hitch on Ebay and did it myself. I bought a combo package deal that included the wiring harness. The whole job didn't take very long and was fairly straight forward. She wont be able to tow a big heavy load but other then that no probs. The combo price was well under $100 canadian. Hope this helps.

I fitted a tow hitch and wiring, Curt Mfg, see My Garage for details, max weight about 350kg!

Does the AVEO have a manual tranny ? Or automatic ?

If automatic , might consider an auxiliary tranny cooler ?
