I went to my dealer to get this service done and they told me it was not required since it's a sealed transmission.

That's the 'usual party line' GM tells all of its consumers. If you've never done routine maintenance on a car you might fall for that BS nonsense.
Have you checked the transmission dipstick to see if the fluid looks brown or smells burnt? If it is, you are well down the road to needing a transmission rebuild. It's one of the costliest repairs for any car, these days running upward of $1500.
Any transmission is "sealed" until you drain and refill it. If you have one of the few vehicles that actually has no transmission dipstick then it truly is sealed. In that case, ignorance is bliss... but once it is out of warranty, Chevy won't 'give you the time of day'.![]()
