I've had so many jobs I can say i've done everything, but my passion is law enforcement, I worked for Anahein PD as a metter maid, Paramount as a school police officer and Long Beach PD, also semi-tractor driver and now working in the oil field, great money but I hate it, but for now will have to do. :( Hopefully the wife's new carrer as a writer will take off soon(she's got 5 books under contract already) and I can find something else to do that I will enjoy, maybe build custom parts for the Aveo and sell it to the guys in this forum! LOL :D
^ would be nice 2 get parts. i wish i had a shop 2 make parts 2
I search for jobs and fill out applications for a living :p
sick right now and no calls for jobs..... f*ck. I've been applying everywhere -_-
what parts are you thinking need made? i've made a couple..
hopefully you want to do bodykits or something, that too big (and unnecessary) for me to bother with..
there are jobs all over pittsburgh if you guys are willing to relocate. i'm not looking myself though.
I dont have a shop yet, but for now my garage doubles as one, I would need more tooling to make parts, I got quite a bit of tools but theres always something else u need, like a metal lathe and pipe benders, a english wheel, u know... I worked with fiberglass before too. Not sure what I would make, Im thinking I would tacle a rear disc brake conversion first, try to make it as cheap and easy to install as possible.
i'm working on the rear disc conversion now.. think ill beat you to it?
i'm think it will be @ $100 for my kit, then the rest of the parts could be had for $50-300 depending on how you look and what new parts you want.. ($50 being you reuse everything from a u pullit yard, $300 includes new disks, pads and bearings etc)
thats for another topic at another time though.
Sounds good, I want to do it mostly for cosmetic reasons, I have 17' 6spoke wheels and u can see very clear inside the wheel, the front looks cool cose the disc, the rear looks weak with the drums, plus I hate to work on drums. keep us posted on the progress...
I am a stationary engineer in Tulsa, and have been doing this for 3 years (think HVAC on a huge scale, we operate hydronic heating and chiller systems, boilers) I also repair package terminal A/C units and water sourch heat pumps and generally do mechanical repair work on related systems, and anything else that I might be asked to do. I bought my '06 Aveo in August after finding it at a regional Chevrolet dealer on Craigslist. I've probably owned 40 cars over my lifetime...who knew that a little red Daewoo hatchback would end up becoming my favorite after only 2 months?
I'm a Mechanic for a Buick GMC dealer in NJ. I'm also new to this forum with my 2010 Aveo5 LS
Thanks NYChevoo. Yea I have to wash it before I'll even consider taking any pics lol. I'm just searching around trying to get ideas on what to do first...I think the first thing is changing out the green dashboard lights to a more pleasing color
I've been a Pet Care Specialist at a Pets Hotel for 3 years. It's a dirty job, but someones gotta do it! Haha, I'm also a college student.
I cant wait til I can get back into school :(
I'm actually giving up retirement to go back to school and get/finish a degree.. next semester.
I cant wait to be finished with school. I havent really had a full day off in the past three years. (the few days that I don't have classes or work I'm catching up on housework. Damn laundry and dishes, and poor neglected xbox)
What made you want to go back Rabbit? What degree are you going to go for?
Well, since i'm still young, and my wife is a teacher.. I am going to go get my special ed degree. I am seeing more struggling students in my sons school who need someone to stand up for them, help them etc.
Plus it will give me the summers off, all the holidays etc, so even though i wouldnt be home, i wouldnt be missing out. I was thinking about getting a job of sorts (never going back into auto, permanently retired from that, maybe teach vocational) when both my kids are in school full time.
^good 4 you Rabbit. im still wireing houses/ commercial.. i want a maintence job at a plant. they make $$ and have good insurance. i have aflac :\
aflac is a waste of cash imo unless you have insurance as well, and you do get injured or laid up pretty bad. But by itself, it sucks.
Try and get a job doing control work. If you want to get into maintenance, that will give you the skillz...needed for the job. Those guys have to be cross trained in multiple disciplines. When I worked control work in the early 90's I made about 12 bucks and hour and gross around 26k a year. Control work allows you to play electrician, HVAC, Fire and Security, and computer programmer all at once.
^sounds good basicly what im going 4.
oh and Mikedudley. i have a crappy insurance and aflac. i fell off a ladder in march and i wish i had aflac. i woulda got $ for stayin at home for 2 months. but yes i kno it does suck :( i worked for the city and they had great coverage. im also tryin 2 go back there and i can retire in 19 years. :) of get a better payin job
I am an Aviation Maintenance Technician working at WDW as an Attractions Mechanic.
what park???
I am at Magic Kingdom
That sounds awesome. At some point I want to get into Disney
I work for Du Pont Chemical. I'm a control room board operator. Basically, I sit and push buttons and watch little pretty lights on 12 computer screens. Exciting, I know! My wife says I have the same job as Homer Simpson. :D But hey, it pays real well and I don't see her complaining, huh?
Petrified....my wife is a teacher too. She teaches 3rd grade. What does yours teach?
Oscare003....that's a good move if you're looking for a maint job at a plant like mine. Our maintenance guys here make as much as we do ($36/hour) plus more since they are always getting call outs with overtime.
^thanx
:) still looking. been real busy. just got a new home. ill get back 2 yall when i get the internet again!~
I am a Senior Travel consultant in South Africa.
So for people like yourself looking to come to South Africa i will do tailor made itineraries for various options, including Safaris, Cape Town and etc.
My wife teaches secondary autistic support at a special Ed center.
Homer Simpson made $36 an hour? Hmm.. That's alot of donuts and beer..
Hi everybody, I'm new here. Unlike many of you, while I love the Aveo, I don't "Love the Aveo"... it's the wife's car. I picked it from a field including pontiac, suzuki, and toyota, and picked it as the best value. I do not drive it all that much, because I cannot get her out of it. I nirmally drive the GMC Doolie, or the Silverado 4X4, or ride the bike... 2000 LC1500.
We bought it new in late 2004, and have about 107K on the clock. We did the timing belt replacement around 60K (yeah, coming up on another by spring), and around 100K I replaced the plugs and wires, and knocked the bugs out of the K&N.
I am a Marine Corps Veteran, US Navy Retired, DAV for life, and work as a freelance computer consultant. In 2008 I traveled all over the country (like 47K miles in 34 states in 10 months) on a contract performing computer upgrades of paint mixing systems. Since that contract ended, I have been job hunting, with a little work here, a little work there.
I now work at the grocery store owned by my family again while im back into college. and a full time student, if that counts
I want a new job. Mine has no challenge to it. Im wating time. So while Im wasting time here, Im gonna scour the internets looking for gainful employment.
I am a help desk technician in downtown LA. I finally have a job so that I can start modding my Aveo again (which will happen very soon!)
I don't have a job yet, but I'm looking for a decent paying job so I can enroll into Shoreline Community College here in Washington. They have a really great program for automotive. Working on cars is something that I've seriously considered for the last few years since my sophomore year in high school, as well as watching my dad change his stereo system on his cars years ago, to him upping the performance on his current car in recent months.
I currently have two jobs I'm working right now, roughly 45 to 50 hours a week.
The first is shift manager at the Pizza Hut near the malls in my city. I'm pretty sure we are the only Pizza Hut in Canada that does not have delivery. Delivery was moved to a Delco nearby and we run strictly as takeout and dine-in. I have a love/hate relationship with that place.
I work at Mark's Work Wearhouse, a Canadian clothing chain on the side as well. I'm basically just an employee there, helping people find items, answering questions ordering items ect. My primary area is mens denim. I love it there, laid back, good customers and when they aren't my managers don't take ****, we actually threw someone out yesterday for yelling at a staff member because we cannot get an item here for Christmas.
I'm looking to get back into the movie theatre industry though, I worked at one for 6 years and then decided to move on and try something else and for other personal reasons. I actually have an interview for a projectionist position at one of the other theatres here in my city on Christmas day. Can't say that was the ideal situation but the owner wants to see me and that is the only time he could. Only took them 3 days to get back to me after dropping off my resume caught me off guard.
Oh and I'm hoping to go back to school as well next year taking Network Systems Technician. I took Animation Computer Arts (3D Animation) but the industry tanked the year I graduated and haven't been able to find a job. I figured networking is something that will always be needed.
Wow having written that I have a **** ton going on and planned in my life for the next 2 years.
