I know, the training program I'm in just sent one guy there from previous class. He's got a lot of family there. It's very hard to get into pipe-fitting/welding up in alaska though, since, from what they said, you pretty much have to be born into it to work there... You never know though. The money is good up there.Originally Posted by Wolfman AK907

Not true, we have a lot of guys that are in that field of work that work up in Prudhoe Bay and actually live in the states. Several of them live in Texas, Washington, South Dakota and Montana. Whichever outfit they work for pays to fly them up to Prudhoe Bay on the north slope, you work 5 days a week, 12hrs a day, with the option to work weekends for overtime. They do that for 2 weeks, then they fly them home for 2 weeks and then come back. It's nice if you're single. I considered it myself for a while, but with my girlfriend and I thinking of getting married and starting a family it might prove to be difficult being away from home so much.Originally Posted by serega12

I liked how I was always busy at Firestone, but I didn't like how I had no life working there. The store I figured would be easier for me while I'm back in school, so I can focus on classes and homework. I figure after this degree I'll try my hand at a body shop to get the experiance in there, and run the store when I get out of work at the body shop.
E-Teeecchhhhhhh!!!!!
I am an ASE/Toyota certified technician, working at Jerry Durant Toyota in Granbury Tx, 30 minutes south west of Fort Worth (and about 35 40 minutes from Mansfield). people at work tease me a little and call my aveo "hotrod", its lowered with big rims, custom paint and big stereo
Pics of your aveo? I get made fun of Alll the time

I have learned that admin assistants (secretaries), security guards, and janitors are people too and should be treated with the up most respect. Also once you become friends with them, you also learn all the best gossip in the company. So even if you sit on your ass all day long, I thank you. When you are needed to do the right thing, you will do the right thing!

Right now I have a gig in SC writing Firmware for Electrical Metering Products. I love my job and I get to do really cool things. I have worked for several failed attempts at GreenTech and I hope this thing works for me. My past job history is all over the place. I worked for 6 years in the control industry as a tech. That means I can run conduit, wire and work from your regular home AC to Campus Wide System. I am not refrigeration mechanic but damn close.
While I was working at IBM (I don't have good things to say about them) I was working part time at Lowes HW to make ends meet. I got to drive all the heavy lifting equipment. Driving a forklift is fun and dangerous as hell!
I have owned a three small cars: two beetles and the aveo. I have worked on my beetles as my Granddad owned a VW repair shop. So learned from the BEST! Thanks PawPaw! I also owned a truck and replaced the engine myself when it blew.
I usually work on my own cars out of necessity as the mechanic charges are too much and I can do the work myself. I had a new engine put into my truck (I hated the junk yard engine) and got a professional shop to do it. I really regretted it. I wanted to spend 3.5K to replace the engine and end up spending 6K and very unhappy with the work.
I want to upgrade my aveo as it's fun and I really want to promote small cars and matching the car for the mission. I live in the South where everybody's one-person SUV is in my way.
