Why are the auto reviews so hard on the Aveo. It is what it is and does everything for the price as it was sold to do. There very few cars on the market that fit in the class of the Aveo . It seems to always get me where I want to go.

It does not have a Honda or Toyota badge.
They are great cars though, does the job, nothing more or less.
Welcome to the forum btw, you are pretty close to some of us
Here is Thailand the difference in depreciation between an Aveo (which I own) and the equivalent Toyota (Vios) or Honda (City) is startling. All three cars cost roughly the same, but the Aveo depreciates like a rock. The reviews are fair; I only went with Chevy because they offered an interest-free loan, but it has dated styling, the built-quality like the fit of the panels is barely passable, the fuel economy is awful and it did poorly in crash tests. Look at it this way; my 1.4l Aveo has 94bhp while the 1.5l Honda City gets 120bhp. Despite everything, I like my Aveo, it has been very reliable.
People here pay $5000+ for a 90's toyota or a rusted honda that is JDM tight, I would be lucky to get $5000 for the 07 aveo with at least 100k less miles and 10~ years newer. It depreciates at the speed of light.
You know I have to say that deprectiation or not the first generation Aveo that I had was amazing in that in all the years that I owned it the car cost me very little other than tires, brakes, & oil changes most of which I did myself. The only major things I have ever done to mine was the lower control are at 60K due to a faulty bushing, then the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, and idler pulleys at 91K because we all know what happens when we break a timing belt right? Anyway as of late it seems to me, and this is just my opinion, if you look at cars.com and see what Aveos are going for right now it seems that theyre getting a pretty good price for them. I'm sure thats got a lot to do with the increase in fuel prices.
Missing our beloved 1st gen Aveos everyday!
Silence is golden. Duct tape is silver!!
04 Aveo (mine gone but never forgotten)
07 Aveo 5 (wifes car gone but never forgotten)
02 Suburban (Eats gas stations as snacks)
12 Cruze Eco 6MT (46mpg daily? Holy crap!)
12 Sonic 2LT (Wifeys new wheels)
Chevoo-1/2 Chevy, 1/2 Daewoo. I mean like WTF?
I see that the price has jumped on them as well, my bluebook (for whatever it is worth) jumped almost $2000 over the past year.
What did you get on trade for both your aveos? I plan to trade-in within the next 2-3 years, maybe sooner.

To be honest I hated my aveo when I first got it. My parents convinced me to ditch my 00 Honda passport back in 2009 during the cash for clunkers deal.
The more I drive it the more I like it. I travel for work and am reimbursed for mileage so I plan to drive this baby until it refuses to drive another mile.
