Well, I could get it in there. It is a swap though how mechanically inclined are you?

The F23 uses a cable driven shifter system, not a shaft like our cars, you will need the complete replacement of the shifter assembly, meaning you need to get the entire shifter with the cables and stuff from the F23 donor car.

You will also need a custom transmission mount made up. Then figure out how to make your speedometer work. It's possible your current speedometer sensor will work with the F23, im not sure about that.

The F23 is very close to the F28 in terms of bell housing design and size, they also share the same input shaft size and spline count. The F28 would be easier to work with since you wouldn't need to replace your entire shifter assembly.

It does fit yes, but its going to take some work. In my opinion the engine should drop in pretty easily using your stock motor mounts, i believe they all share the same location for the mounts. But you will need a custom transmission mount.

Byron, it's located in Liverpool, UK... Have you inquired about the shipping/customs charges? 1700 pound sterling is 2,460.24 U.S., plus shipping on top of that... Plus all the labor... That's a lot of things to consider.

      Byron,

It helps to know where you are located.

Re: is a Z20LET/F23 swap possible in the aveo?

I am not all that mechanically inclined, and I'm just looking around right now. I thought it was interesting and wondered if it's a worthwhile project some time down the road, as I plan on keeping the car for a long time. Got plenty of things to keep me busy for right now.

I am in Quebec, so yes I realize about the shipping.

Nemasys that is a lot of good info, thanks. Now I have a much better idea of what is involved with such a swap. Sounds like quite a bit of work..!

Don't let a cable shifter stop you. It's probably the easier part of the swap. Going to shift linkage from cable is another story.

For the total cost of your idea you could do a lot especially if your not doing it yourself.

Yes, i just thought i would mention that in case he buys it and surprise i cant shift the transmission lol

Byron, where are you located in Quebec? I live right on the border of Quebec/Ontario.

The F23 looks like a very strong transmission tho, probably as strong as the F28, some guys in the UK that have opened it up say the internals are as beefy as the F28, which is a good thing! Im sure that thing could handle well over 300 wheel HP.

Re: is a Z20LET/F23 swap possible in the aveo?

That motor and box setup are very decent. I think it will fit but instead of the transmision mounting change i would think that the front engine mount on the pully side is the one that needs to be custom made. The f23 is a very strong box but is 5speed if im not mistaken and the f28 is 6 speed. The f28 is also a rwd box and an adaptor plate is needed for fwd. South africa however had fwd f28 boxes but they are very scarse.

I noticed that, I actually lived in Hawkesbury for some time. I remember getting there and being like ... wait, people are french here?? lol
I'm in montreal now, downtown actually.

i've never done a swap or anything like that, but i'm wondering what turns out to be less hassle.. modifying the existing setup? turbo/sc? swap? i will be able to get access to tools and help of a couple of people but i don't have access to a machine shop or anything like that.
