*The REAL turbo thread*
MoreTau Motorsports Turbo kit*
I will let the full write up be done by the owner/operator of the kit and let him fill you in on details. I can now post one pic to let it be known that I am a man of my word and craftsman ship.(coated parts) Feel free to try and copy manifold but we are redesigning since prototype/mockup to relocate turbo so you as the owners will be happy to hear you will not have to remove radiator fan(OEM) or relocate oil filter etc.
We spent a total of 3 days mocking kit up, taking measurements, and drinking cold ones to make sure when final product is made it will be easy enough for anybody to bolt on etc.

Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
Well a couple things, why is it kind of off center or tilted? Is that normal and/or efficient for like exhaust balance?
Also how much would that cost about? Or at least the final price? I have a shop waiting for the $ to create the turbo from scratch, but it would save me about 3 weeks and half the price to just have the manifold already made, which makes your work quite appealing since I'm not the one who has to try and come up with the money and time to loan them MY car to design it from scratch, then find myself a rental car and all that stuff, skipping all that will reduce them to just having to install the turbo, reprogram the CPU and make the exhaust system to my specs (and anything else I forgot to add).
P.S. The manifold you are making, does it only work on Garretts or can it work on say a Mitsubishi?
P.P.S. Excellent work, I look forward to chatting with you about getting my hands on your work ;)

Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
That header is Awesome! You do some nice work!
-
Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
the issues you guys have raised are good ones..
The exhaust manifold was designed by me but final welding by the welder warped slightly. However the new ones will NOT be because jigs will be used with CNC/waterjet cut flanges..
This will be sold as a kit and you would not be that bright not to buy it. I can see you making payments etc which I am sure we can work out. However the design we came up with is superb!
We are working with distributers etc pricing out various parts to lower price so we do not have a total $$$ amount yet.
-
Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
Well the kit idea is nice but what if I just wanted the headers by themselves? So I could take care of everything else myself? ;) I don't really want something that everyone else has plus I'm kind of attached to using a new Mitsu turbo that I have waiting for me.
I mean just making an extra header and not getting anything else with it would be fine, right? :D
Let me know the options ;)
-
Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
I think that looks GREAT!!! keep us imformed.
-
Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
As far as creating a manifold to suite your mitsu turbo that will be fine as long as your turbo is not internally wastegated..
Otherwise i could put on any turbo inlet flange on for anyone with a turbo already. We plan on using Garret turbos and name brand parts as well.
Basically if you went on your own and bought each part seperately you probably would end up spending more money guaranteed.
An update:
Working on website also that should be up in a week soon to give more info as well.
Thanks for being patient

Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
looks awesome... you should also make plain NA headers!
-
Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
any chance you have pics of one that is uncoated? Is the turbo oil and water cooled?
-
Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
The turbos used to keep costs down and ease of installation will be a normal oil journal type.
All parts will be coated for added HP and looks so no pics of manifold uncoated etc. We will be assembling/welding manifolds using mild steel.

Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
any thoughts of N/A headers?
prefferably one that relocates the cat under the car?
-
Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
N/A headers are on the to-do list.

Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
I know this is probably a dumb question but will a turbo work with the auto trans, and would you have to or be able to program the comp for it properly?
-
Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
Turbo can work with auto trans but certain autos cannot handle much more power overstock so just be careful.
-
Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
Stock auto for Aveo should be good for 150ft-lbs. That's if my calculations for the manual transmission can be applied to the automatic.
-
Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
if u search the forum, the auto trans is actually rated 40 ft-lbs higher than the manual.
its been safe to say that the manual is good for 160 and the auto 200. the auto trans was also some special thing that is supposed to be a really good trans, cant remember what it was called.
-
bump
asking for this to be stickied soon for ease.

daz right, I don't know why I had this crazy idea it could hold less torque.
-
Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
alot of auto trans tend to break before the manuals when adding more power (stockwise)
in light of this, i would like to take a moment to say.......
:headbang: :wav: :headbang:
....yay one plus for the auto guys

Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
Now this is what I am talking about! That is no doubt quality craftmanship! I am definetly interested in purchasing one of your complete turbo kits when you are completed designing it. Keep us updated on the design process.

Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
bump. Hope for sticky.
News on pricing and availibility in a couple weeks.
-
Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
i think it still needs some work before it gets stickied....have had plenty of threads claiming to be the real thing...your work will show us that it should be stickied not your words
-
Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
Well I have pics? and can have other members vouch for me if thats what you would like? I just figured the most important performance product thread in this forum should be stickied to make it easier to find. just my two cents.
Ps-Please don't ask for a dyno sheet otherwise I will leave the forum. I am serious. One will come in due time.
-
Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
its already at the top of the forum...no its not about vouches but on every other forum i belong to it takes a little more to get a sticky. I dont' want it to be like the proboards forum where every thread about a turbo was stickied
-
Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
I got a supercharger kit! Can I get a sticky now? (sarcasm)
I have to agree with Sam, give us something to go on because on the internet, as much as in real life, someone's word isn't enough.

Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
Hmm, gee, wow- a turbo. Looks good but.........
How about the most important (and so far difficult) part?
TUNING??
I'm not gonna get all excited about a turbo untill i see that legit tuning has been achieved. And I would advise anyone who doesn't wanna blow their motor to follow suit.
Puting a turbo on an aveo isn't just plug and play.
I guess thats just my opinion though.

Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
^ you have a valid point boxkiller. However if you find a turbo kit that includes management for around $3k that WORKS..let me know. Its the owners choice on what to run for ECU management based on the area he is in and the availability of a dyno. I recommend for safe thoughts the new AEM F/IC for $500 made for OBD2 cars such as this. Excellent piece of hardware for the price.
FYI-We are doing a base tune with larger injectors and an apexi neo as of right now then upgrading later.

Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
The manifold looks not bad. I'll be interested to see how this project plays out..

Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
I could not get the car and turbo setup ready for HIN chicago in time which is quite a blow as far as a business standpoint is concerned. However the prototype kit is now 100% complete and we are now moving into production stages now. A website will be setup within a few weeks with details and pics of what will be included in the kit and pricing for deposit since these are low production right now. As it stands overall a total of $4k has been invested on our part. Each kit WILL include an installation manual with part numbering and pictures of locating parts. We also have chosen to include an electric oil pump on the return side because the oil could not drain by gravity back to the pan.
I just got done working since 6am yesterday till 9pm and today from 9am till 10pm non stop and 6 bandages on my hands.
I would like people to come forward that are highly interested in putting down a deposit in the coming month. The first production kit for the test car will have an additional $1000 invested and will be tuned at AMS in IL.(evo guys)
If there is any questions or concerns please come forward.
thanks

Re: *The REAL turbo thread*
Also I would like to thank Spec-R for the help he has given me. We had to team up to get this done because it started to get to costly for me to do it alone and I am not sure where Xtreme stands as far as making a kit. Even tho this was a sort of failed weekend, we did get alot done. Gah, my hands kill as well. Thanks for travelin here man!
