15 second aveo?

My main goal with the aveo is to be able to crack a 15 in the 1/4 mile, or has been my goal for a long while. Using my own numbers/caculations and a nifty little tool online I found that at my tire size, and at a 2300 weight (aveo comes in at 2287 something, and i will be removing things) with 135 whp its shooting me times like 14.87 (i found it to be at 14.70 myself, btw I am at sea level). That is of course with a manual and such, but I think I am close number wise, comparable cars running at 15's have more hp but also weigh over 1000 pounds more in some cases.

On the side, the new aveo should be at around 16 seconds or less I am guessing.

This is just saddening. My WRX (car before my Aveo) was a 12-second car, now I'm in a car that people are "trying" for 15 seconds?? hahahahahahaha

it banks on the 3rd gen (if things are swapable) but I am looking to get the transmission swap up in PA, while adding a set of higher duration cams, header, finishing the exhaust, the underdrive pulley, the cam and crankshaft pulleys. It is the AM so I think I am missing parts, but I still need to caculate what this would get me.

Of course I plan on remvoing my A/C system, the backseat and other useless things, my golden wieght is 2300 pounds, well, I could lose some wieght myself :P

Cams for a N/A engine is where the power is at. Remember that the redline is 6500rpm therefore they shiuld be ground to give you good power before that. Porting the exhaust side of the head will also help. Unfortunately, not much can be done to the intake. A custom intake manifold would be sweet, but wil mostlikely screw up the ECU... unless you go with a stand alone system... I would use a piggyback, don't have to worry about getting the timing and ignition setup... just need to compensate for fuel.

yeah, adding the cams in is the only way to get any kind of major power besides forced induction, im willing to go as far as rabbit will take me :P

I assumed that with the new cams, the redline would increase? Or the whole power curve shifts up instead?

Already looked into intake manifolds with rabbit a while ago, would be a great upgrade

Redline is set in the computer, if you want the cams to match the power curve you need to match that to the computer. And doing so gives you the chance/ability to move or eliminate redline.

If your going as far as i would take it, and money is no object, ill start shopping for a solstice gxp for your drivetrain swap..

Just stick another stock setup in the trunk. He'll have @200 hp and awd.

I think I just want to stick with a simple tranny swap with cams and such, or if the new aveo works in our favor then I will go with that instead

Does anyone know if the new 09-10 turbocharged cobalt engine would fit in the aveo? We know the supercharged one does but are engines the same on the cobalts?

thats the only ive been looking for, it will either be that or a vw swap. 2.0t fsi (same engine style as cobalt ss, easier aftermarket.)

oh, and audi > subie.. nothing like awd.

i would love to be able to drop the new cobalt in mine but its kind of expensive at the moment especially while im still in school

dont know why the 09-10 wouldnt swap, should be close to the same thing (supercharger vs turbo) it is expensive for the swap though, I dont want to spend a ton of money/time into the car, so doing a basic tranny swap with a minor N/A build makes sense for me

btw red, i have plenty of money right now lol, just no time, i do plan on installing some H&R springs (need new tires too) and a header if I can get a hold of xaiogary, bought a video camera mount though lol

want to get on the autocross track soon

Just message Xiaogary on ebay. he responds pretty quick. Usually he has the headers already posted on ebay so just search up kalos header i think.

i know, he does not have anything listed on there right as of 4pm today though lol

i was looking at removing the airbags later on and getting the hub from him too, save on shipping :P

since your running small wheels and tires, you should buy coilovers instead of h&r springs and slam it like me..

AWD is the only thing I settled on when I bought my Aveo. Funny my "summer" car is AWD and my daily and winter car is FWD.

Turbo would be a great swap if it would work. Might be harder to route the plumbing though.

tuning and reliability would be my biggest issues, look at my boy in canada, his super cool aveo sits in the yard :P

if I were not sooooo busy and had a second car then I might do some crazy swap though lol

I would figure out ecxatelly what kind of money for the SS engine/tranny swapp, after all u may be better of geting a diferent car for about the same money without all the headaches/down time of the converstion, I know this will piss people of but the Aveo is great for a cheap car, car be supped up for little money and its very good looking and reliable but not comparason to a older model better car that cames already set up factory like a used Nissan 300,350 or Mitsubishi GT VR4 or etc... maybe be a better option.

14.7 with this??? And 135 whp??? You gotta be kidding me man, let's be realistic here!

My friend's Mx-3 powered by a KLZE 2.5L V6 engine (200hp stock) at 8 psi of boost could only crack around 13.7 - 13.9 and that car's roughly only 200 pounds more heavy then the Aveo. Another one of by buddies had a H22 inside a EG hatch (lighter then the Aveo), that car was quick as hell, and even with slicks on he managed high 14's, no 135 whp Aveo would even touch his car.

Hell i probly cant even reach high 14's with my turbo 2.0 at this time and its way more powerfull then anything you can put into the 1.6 prior to forced induction.

My N/A 2.0 was pulling consistent 16.9's on the quarter with excellent take offs and that alone was quite a lot faster then the 1.6.

A Mazdaspeed 3 does low 14's, turbocharged Cobalt high 14's, both cars heavier yes but alot more powerfull as well... and you expect a 135 whp 2300 lbs car to do low 15's and high 14's....

i REALLY would have to see it to believe it to be honest, it just doesnt make sense.

keep in mind its the gearing and when the hp reaches peak in the gear , more so than hp to weight, that keeps these cars slower.. even though the car has 150-200 hp, it might not have the hp until redline.

dragsters are built with 1000hp so they have 300-400hp (probably better now) off the line at lower rpm.. a design point of stall convertors etc, is to get going at a higher rpm for more hp BEFORE the car moves.

my math does not lie :P

my perfect example is the civic SI, of course its an F1 race car but it does not make any power until about 7200rpm? giving it sub par 15 second times #-o

the aveo's power curve seems to fit the scales, perhaps it would be a bit slower at best

Does your calculator ask you for final drive ratio, gear ratios, or if you have vtec?

forgot about the vtec, some of them do, but i did not think it would make a huge difference, maybe by a second at most?
