      2004 Gates Timing Belt Kit

      Hello all, new guy here.
I'll be changing the timing belt, water pump. idle pulley, and tensioner on my 2004 1.6L. 60,000 miles. I found such great info and pictures here that make it look easy enough to do it with one hand...so I'm gonna do it. My question is, do you guys think the Gates kit, TCKWP335 is a good one to use, or should I go with something else? And if so, which one? Thanks alot. Tom

That's the kit I used from rockauto for a little over a hundred bucks. Right after I put it in I saw the same kit, for the same price, with the cam locking tool thrown in for free on Amazon. I didn't use the cam tool, made my own water pump wrench from plans found on this forum. The kit went in in August last year, car runs great.

I trust Gates products, but I haven't seen any comparisons. I just put one in using the forum's instructions. The pump tool was worth buying. The hardest part was torquing the crankshaft bolt to spec. (I couldn't get it to the amount past 70 ft-lbs specified).

Going with a Gates Timing Belt Kit is the easiest way to make sure you have everything you need to do the job correctly. These kits come with all Gates components, which are OE or better. This kit includes a Gates Water Pump.

Finally got around to it. Thanks for the advise. And one hell of a THANK YOU to the poster that posted the step-by-step instructions along with the pictures. I followed them exactly, only took me six hours start to finish, and she runs like a champ. If anyone is having doubts about doing this job, print out those instructions and have at it. If I could do it...just about anyone can. Thanks again. Tom
