2005 Aveo Timing Belt R&R questions.....

First I want to say I am new to this forum and excited to see there are forums out there for the Chevy Aveo's.

I bought my first Aveo in 2005 brand new. It was a non air 5 speed car. Well I sold it soon after as I purchased a classic Mustang and needed the money. Since them I have other Mustang and just recently bought another 2005 5 speed non-air Aveo.....

I am in the process of removing the timing belt and had a question about the crank pulley which seems to be attached to the harmonic balancer thus being 1 piece. My question is this, any one who has the same setup as mine do i need to remove the serpentine belt/crank pulley/harmonic balancer/ in order to R&R the timing belt and if so, whats the best way to do this.?? Meaning specifically, once the car is jacked and the serpentine belt is removed, how should I remove the harmonic balancer? There appears to be a large hex bolt holding it on to the crank.. Wondering if the unit is keyed and how to get the darn thing off the crank!!!!!

Also, if anyone has any other helpful advice on this install....??? I understand its easiest to install the belt then the idler pulley, then adjust tension with the tensioner pulley and have the arrow from it in the "groove or slot" if you will...

      Thanks members for the help!!

It looks like i need to remove both the camshaft sprockets in order to R&R the water pump. Is there a writeup on this or can someone offer advice on how to remove and install these without screwing up valve timing??

This is probably a good write up for you:

It sounds like the water pump will come out without removing the cam gears. Just use a DOHC lock tool, or some even use zip ties, but it's up to you.
