Wish I'd taken some pics of the two engines. Where the external tube connected to the block is below/ behind where the start motor is located. If you look at the 06 thru 08 engines you'll see a flat kinda diamond shaped area on the block where the tube used to attach for the 04 thru 05 engines. It basically looks like something used to belong there (06 to 08.) With the tube gone on later engines the Crankcase is vented internally through the block and head.
The PCV system is already such that fresh filtered air comes in after the air filter to the valve cover and the other end goes to the throttle body area. This area will always be vented but in your case the ventilation from the bottom of engine (crankcase) is now impaired. Where are you going to "T" into to vent the lower crankcase?
Anyways like you say just keep an eye on it for now....
