      2007 Aveo5 LS P0420 Code

Check engine light just came on after replacing injector #3 & all wires. It's only got 68K miles on it. I tired some additive I got at AutoZone but it didn't help. Anyone have any ideas? I am currently unemployed and can't afford to replace the cat on this thing right now. Ugh! Help!!!

Did you replace the injector and wires because it had been misfiring?

Yes, error codes came on for those & replaced them. Car is running just fine. Disconnected battery to clear the engine light, 2 days later, the P0420 code came.

What codes previously, and how long were they there? Did your gas MPG go way down also?

Can't remember the previous codes but specific to the #3 injector & the wires. The MPG didn't go way down, no. It seems to be doing ok. Just the light is on. I don't drive a whole lot either, so IDK. Emissions aren't due until August so I have time but I don't want to mess up the engine!!

First thing to try is disconnecting and cleaning the male and female connectors of both O2 sensors. Clear the codes and see if that eliminates the P0420. If not, many DIY guys try hanging on one, and then the other new O2 sensors. If still no joy, it's almost definitely the cat gone bad, and there's no wiggle room on that. By any chance is your Aveo inside of 8 years from (new vehicle) purchase date, and under 80K miles?

odds are if it is still running fine, it is the o2 sensor and not the cat. But I would wait on planning replacement until the additive is out of the system. Once that is gone it might clear itself (or the additive will clog the cat). What additive did you use?

Hoping what you said is correct. It's called CatClean.

Gonna try disconnecting the battery again tmro to see if it actually worked. IDK.

So you are a girl and do not know much about cars ? I think there are a lot of young guys that do not either .

Seems like no one teaches young people anything useful / practical , any more .

Forums like this are useful . Also try researching on youtube .

      Best of luck .
