      Air intake

Hey guys i am deciding to get a air intake but i found out that my harness and air sensors are glued (by dealer for some reason). so should i take the chance of changing the whole tube and filter to a pipe and cone filter or i was thinking of leaving the stock tubing and putting a cone air filter. Now heres my question will the stock pipe and aftermarket filter put out as much horse power as the Aftermarket pipe and filter?

the stock intake with the filter on the end is better than the intake box, but a CAI is the best, gains about 4 whp on the entire curve, but in the worst case just stick a filter on the end and call it a day

anything is an improvement over stock..

the restriction in the factory system is the intake tube in front of the filter box, and the filter.
not sure what you mean about glue. it should come out? but even if you use the main rubber and a cone filter you wont see as much as from the short ram, but it would still be worth it.

i would at least try to go cai. its best imho.. even if you need to buy a sensor to not remove the glued one.

so the restriction is in the tube itself? and i meant that the sensor itself is glued to the air intake tube, so could you or some one post a tutorial on how they come out. i mean just so i dont break it, and i dont really even have the money for a CAI, thats why i wanted to get a short ram, cause i found one on ebay for a reasonable price, and can some one explain how much of a gain in hp i would get in a CAI vs. a Short ram.. thanks

The cold air intake is way better.. and if you're already looking at eBay, CAI is not much more than short ram air... And I know exactly what you're saying about the sensor being glued in. You just need to carefully cut it away from the tube with a very sharp blade, but be careful not to go too deep so you don't damage the sensor itself. I think in second gen motors the sensor is not glued in... we're stuck with the one we have to literally saw out of there... but definitely worth it.

As far as which one to get - I had just the stock pipe with the aftermarket cone, and I felt just a little bit of improvement, but when I got rid of that and installed cold air intake (sold by Chrome Intakes on eBay), I actually felt the extra power... So as rabbit and hunter said, try at least go CAI...

      Re: Air intake

CAI is about 4whp on the entire curve

SRI could cause a lose of power due to sucking in hot air, and suffering from heat soak, even on a highway in 90 degree weather at 90 i couldnt get mine below 105 degrees

If i had to guess, i would say the SRI adds maybe 1-2whp if you take out the box and such, but you lose that gain when things get hot

though they both sound awesome, the CAI sounds better too lol

yes the pipe before the filter in the wheel well, behind the bumper is the most restrictive of the piping:

the whole factory intake for reference:

but if i do get the cai, wont it get clogged by water because of how low it is, where i live it does rain very heavy this time of the year. maybe only 3 weeks out of the whole year.

      Re: Air intake

mine sits up pretty high in the wheelwell, the filter has to be completly submerged to draw water in, hence i dont really worry about hydrolocking, but if you worry about it then just buy a bypass and dont worry about it anymore

      Re: Air intake

You could always get an AEM air bypass valve just for peace of mind... In the rare case the filter does get submerged, it opens up at the pretty much the highest point in pipe (right below the hood) and draws air from the engine bay...
