Anyone see these hop up tricks? (from another forum)

I'll cut and paste what I just read here, what do you guys think?

""i have a 2004 aveo, i was getting poor gas mileage and performance.
i decided to do my own maintenance. i change spark plugs from acdelco to
just plain autolite copper core part#3923, i changed my factory air filter
to a k&n easy fit filter part# 332320, just drop it in and throw away your old filer,
dont put oil on the filter just wash it off each oil change when it gets dirty.
just use plain 5w-30 oil. not synthetic.put 32 psi in tires at night. im now getting
30mpg city and 45mpg hwy. i also have beaten the following cars. 3.8l grand prix,
2.0 eclips, 1.6 civic, 1.6 mini cooper, v6 mustang. this car is so fast i cant beileve it.
im so confident this will work for your aveo i put my email public, gm will flip out
when they find out we all figured out the aveo's hidden secret power.
its just a deawoo lanos, and that car got 40mpg in 1999. guess what?
it had copper spark plugs from the factory not platinum.
thats why the aveo has so many performance complaints, lack of spark and air.
copper is a better spark than platinum they just need to be replaced every other oil
change. gm has riped us off all this time by using thick paper air filters and
platinum spark plugs. any car with a 1.6 engine can get 30mpg city. they know
that, but they want to keep everybody in the dark. try this out, i guarantee you
wont be disappointed. pass it on to all aveo owners and fansites.any questions

well i had bad mpg

I didnt have a history on the car as it was an estate sale. The car had been sitting in a garage for 6 months (so the gas might have gone stale)?

So at 50,000km I changed my sparks, airfilter and then ran through some gas treatments and injector cleaners for a few tanks on some long distance runs.... after that its gone back to spec....

I also would not even waste my time racing the car agianst other ones cause what do i have to prove ? nothing i want a good reliable car that is good on gas and lasts until im out of school.

i can see the civic and the ive kept up to an eclipse, but cmon, v6s, especially the stang? i hate v6 stangs but all due respect to them, they do ok for what they are. i call bull ****.

i can see the civic and the ive kept up to an eclipse, but cmon, v6s, especially the stang? i hate v6 stangs but all due respect to them, they do ok for what they are. i call bull ****.

With all do respect though.. V6 mustangs do suck.
But as for this thread, My 07 aveo came with NGK copper plugs.. I switched to iridium and it was like someone lifted the anchor and chain i was dragging.

Your joking right? anything this person said is totally discredited due to this statement:

especially the mpg numbers before that. For one the guy sounds like a retard so he probably isn't doing the math right (I see this with a lot of people who try to calculate their mileage). Another thing is that I run 40-42 psi in my tires so how is running less going to do any better. Im telling you I beat a gt500 stang yesterday because I cleaned the brake dust off my front wheels therefore decreasing the amount of drag.....or it could be that he didnt realize we were racing.

over inflating your tires will actually get you further but you will not SEE the difference in your mileage. Same to be said if you went with a bigger overall tire (circumference wise).

i'm running ngk iridiums, k & n filter and magnacore wires and in my automatic its holding 30 mpg. as far as acceleration is concerned? definitley noticeable difference.

the prob with the aveo does lie in how it breathes. an intake is sort of a must to release the held back power, but not in the sense that one guy in the OP put it.... :roll:

+1 total bull**** he must have missed april fools. run mobil1 synthetic w/k&n filters and keep your damn foot out of the gas tank an you will get 30mpg no problem. I run my car 80mph almost everywhere I go and still get over 30. What a joke lol.

canadian eh? so what plugs should I buy? Iridium or copper? any others. I guess what works best? I took the intake off my Aveo and was shocked to see the metalcorrugated aluminium tube coming off it that attaches to the EGR valve almost totally closed off with crap! the intake butterfly too. I actually took a flathead screwdriver and chunked off all the big stuff, then brakleened the rest. looks new now. I'd recommend checking your intake and spare no xpense on air filters. q.
