not sure precisely what the "fuel rating" is but a number of gas stations I believe offer premium unleaded with techron usually at 95 octane rating, if that's what you mean... the car's 16v DOHC E-TECH II, multi-point injection, mileage is roughly 29500, compression ratio is 9.5:1...
with the numbers you have, it sounds like you have RON gas, look at the pump next time you fill up it should be on there.

Ron numbers ARE a little different than (R+M)/2, 87 octane in US method = (if i am guessing correctly) 91 RON, where as your 87 RON is closer to 84-85 octane in the US, then that could be too low..

But the car should be able to adjust timing and be calculated in the ECU for a rating in your country anyhow. whay does ti recommend on the fuel door?

cheerz for the info! but for some reason, I can't seem to find the recommended fuel rating on the fuel door or anywhere else in the car...

93 octane is all I will run in my Aveo, anything less, and mileage and performance (overall, not racing) go down hill. Last year I had an issue where my Aveo would stall (it is manual) in neutral when coming to a stop or turning right. I removed the throttle body and cleaned the buildup and I havent had any further problems with stalling.

I believe your experience last year sounds very much like mine... throttle body had to be cleaned as well...

I run premium 93 oct only because I think the crooks at the gas station cut it down with something else anyway. 87 octane is probably 84 in all reality. I just cant prove it. However I did save allot of money by staying at a "Holiday Inn Express" last night.

Lolwut. You do know that we have the federal trade commission so we don't get falsely advertised octane gas, right? And wtf does holiday inn express have to do with aveoforum

Lighten up! We have a "Board Of Health" too but that still doesnt assure food safety or quality either. Do you really believe what the Trade Commision or what the President tells you??? Those are just Safety Stops. Thats it! As far as running premium is concerned, an Engineer on another site said that premium is good for driving up in the mountains where the air is thinner and if your running an agressive injector cleaner through the engine to clean it that it will help allot. Thats it. Its back to runing 87 oct for me and jerking the injectors every 20 to 30,000 miles for an ultrasonic cleaning. PS My Speedway Rewards card pays for most of my personal gas anyway because I re-fuel all the work trucks at 200 gals a week. Case closed.

wow!!! there are alot of misconceptions when it comes to octane. for one thing there is NO difference in the refining process of the gas from 87 to 105. the octane is added to the gas at the rack when it is loaded into the tanker for delevery to the station. Octane lowers the combustion rating of the gas. thus the higher the octane the hotter the spark needs to be to ignite it. thats why you see high performances engines with these high output coils. hot spark to ignite the harder to burn fuel. so the higher compression engine you run the higher octane needed to stop the pre destination of the gas. like a diesel that uses compression to ignite the fuel. octane is used so that the compression doesnt ignite the fuel but the spark plug does. thats why you get a knocking sound with low octane in a high compression engine.(pre detonation) so using high octain in a lower compression engine can hender performance. because the spark isn't hot enough to ignite the fuel properly. which can lead to an Incomplete burn. so lower octane= faster easier burn. the higher the octane = slower and harder to burn. and last but not least. burning high octane fuel in a lower compression engine can increase carbon deposits in the combustion chamber do to incomplete fuel burn. and the last post is true. when running an injection cleaning agent, put in some higher octane. the cleaner will lower the octane level a point or two. so 89 octane will bring it back up to 87 .
so in other words. unless you are running anything over 9.5:1. compression or running your timing advanced. anything over 87 octane is a waste of money.

I run 89 octane because it is cheaper... Ethanol blend. I should try cleaning up the intake sometime soon.

I will think of a better signature later.
