That would be quite pretty awesome. I've been wondered around in the forums looking for the basics of everything such as installation of parts or devices, and maybe even definition of termonology. I'm still looking for instruction of how to install CAI that will be replacing the stock. Thank you for helping and giving me the answer of my questions. I really appreciate it.

      newbie

I too, am a newbie (POST'ing) guy to this site. Been surfing it for awhile now, and some of the topics here crack me up! First off, thanks to RHYNO for his bit on autocross, cool. AVEOHOTRODguy(whatever your post name is) builds some trick stuff, AVEOGYRL needs to chill out, and buy some rims, and that dude with the black aveo posted on cardomain with all the top honors awards has good philosophy.
Time to add my 2 bits, and see what the TRUE AVEO BUFF's have to say about my philosophy and theories basing them on the MOST INEXPENSIVE, AMERICAN BUILT, UNDERRATED, car on the road!
Why did everyone here buy an AVEO in the first place? Looks? Fuel economy? LOW sticker price? Hmmm. Horsepower? If you answered yes to the last one, it's time to put down the crack pipe, and get your head back in the game. We all have our reasons. Let's not put any one down for trying something new (PAINTED plastic hub caps are cool- I did it on my winter tire setup--uh... did I say that out loud?teeheehee), or for bringing a fresh new idea or product to the table. WE ARE ALL HERE TO LEARN. And I have learned that I have said too much.

The easiest and inexpensive is to re-pipe your exhaust at an exhaust shop. It can be done for about $100. Then buy a performance muffler (Borla/Magnaflow). The best size for the piping is 2" or 2.25" The grand total for the exhaust should be no more than $180 (get the muffler off ebay... they have great deals)

And since your not knowledgable, you'll have to resort to buying a cold air intake. You can get a short ram (stays in the engine bay) off ebay for cheap, but i'm not sure of the quality. And then there is an AEM cold air intake (outside the engine bay) but that is around $200 or something.

      But search the forum.
go with a 2" piping on your exhaust...you will not need more than that will a CAI, header, exhaust combo.

what intake are you doing? have you ever worked on a car before? If not I would suggest biting the bullet and getting the AEM cold air intake because it will be easier then making a custom one and installing it....if you have any other questions just ask them in this thread.

AVEOSAM, where can MUNASHII(or anyone else), find a header for the 1.6? I went to AEM site, but looks like one hasn't been made for us yet. Any other companies that you know builds a header would be greatly appreciated.

Tight on a budget? We all are. Some guys here might think this is going to be 'really budget tight', but here's what I did for my first mod.
1- 'universal' SPECTRE short ram intake. 40 bucks.
1- SPECTRE dual cone filter. 20 bucks.
      1- 3" to 2.5" rubber coupler. 10 bucks.
That's 70 bucks for a short ram, parts available at Autozone. Don't ask anyone to help you there, cuz they won't know WTF is going on.
Take the 'universal tube', and cut 6" off the long end with a hacksaw. Cut 1/2" off the short side by the bend. Make sure you cut these straight. Follow the directions given in the kit about cutting, it works. File down the edge, and run a big rag thru the tube a couple times to make damn good and sure you cleaned out all the aluminum shavings, and dust.
Now, fit the 3 to 2.5" coupler on the short side of the bend, and stuff it on the throttle body. The long part of the tube should slightly turn down, almost pointing to the cold air intake hole in the fender wall. There are 2 pieces of aluminum plate that comes with the kit, to stabilize the tube. I bent the short piece enough to cradle the bottom of the tube, and bolted it with one of the three original intake box screws, to the inside bolt hole of the original fender wall bracket. To keep the squeaking, and friction of 2 pieces of aluminum rubbing to a minimum, I stuck heavy duty felt padding (maybe 5 bucks, the kind you put on bottom of chair legs) to the top of the bent stabilizer bracket. Put the Cone filter on, but don't tighten nothing down yet.
There is a hole on the 'universal' tube by the small welded breather vent tube. This is for your air sensor, which you'll have to cut out of the stock rubber intake hose. Be careful with this piece. It is glued in, so you can basically just slowly pry it out with a small screwdriver. BE PATIENT, you don't want to break this thing! Once it's out, you'll notice it is square at the base. I cut/filed the square edges down until it fit in the hole. Insert the air sensor into the hole, making sure all the 'honeycomb' style square holes toward the end of the piece can receive free flowing air to the sensor( front to back, not up and down). Use a bead of RVT, or silicone gasket maker sparingly to hold it in the hole(make it look like a smooth weld). Wait until it's dry to plug the wiring in. Basically, you're finished. Tighten up the filter, and the rubber coupler. There is enough room in front of the cone to run an additional piece of flex tubing to the stock cold air intake hole( if you want that), but you DO need the DUAL CONE filter to do this.
Unplug your battery at the ground terminal while the RVT silicone is drying(I let mine dry overnight.). This will allow your computer to make its air/fuel adjustments on a clean slate, then plug in your air sensor wiring, and reconnect the battery. Upon first turnover, you won't notice much difference, until you put your foot in the gas pedal. Quite an aggressive sound, from a simple intake! Big improvement overall, especially out of 2nd and 3rd gear. 4th gear has better bottom end, also.
For 75-80 bucks, and a little time, you will NOT be disappointed. Apologies to all you guys who hate the word 'UNIVERSAL', but this thing works! Another fine American tuner project from SHADY GARAGE.

I failed to mention this is the fitting procedures for the 5 door Hatchback model. Don't know how different the sedan(?) engine bay is set up.

I'm gonna take that as a 'WELCOME' to the show. Thanks for the header info AVEOSAM. You've built a CAI setup, if I've read that right. SWEEET... No offense to EXTREME2, and his quest to sell the best parts at the best available price, but some guys just don't have the dough, so they're gonna look for the ultimatum. I hope to bring that to the table. With that said, I've got a 'cat' to pull and swap on a truck, and a Delta 60 to install on the 'Bumblebee'.
