So i've been reading a bunch of posts on here about turboing aveos and i know the feedback isn't overwhelmingly positive but i wanted to just share a little about my build. I bought a B series honda t3/t4 turbo kit a while back and i'm working on getting it all to fit in the car. It came with a very nice "ram horn" style tubular exhaust manifold that i've been determined to keep. After some re-work of the flange and remaking the upper bracket for the a/c compressor I believe i've got it fitting pretty good. My next hurdle now will be intercooler placement. The kit came with a fairly large front mount intercooler that is going to take alot of mods to make fit. I may just sell that one and buy a top mount. I haven't looked into if there is room for a top mount but I suppose this is the next step in the build. A question I have for you guys is, do you know what size stock injectors are and do you know of anywhere where I can get oversized injectors? I've seen 300cm injectors and I'm thinking that those are stock but idk. There are some in the kit but obviously they didn't fit so I sold them.
More to come on this but any feedback/ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Merry Christmas!
Do not do it, that is all I can say (you will need a transmission swap after you blow apart the stock one as well). If you are interested in doing it though, talk to nemasys and look at his huge build thread.
I really appreciate the words of caution. I realize the risk and the excessive strain on all the parts especially the transmission. Thankfully this is my "toy" and if I make pieces of it, its not a huge deal. I've browsed nemasys' threads and I highly admire what he has done. Rabbit, I apologize, I'm not exactly sure what you're asking but I figured I would just post more as I move along. This isn't going to be a very aggressive setup. I have a Tial external wastegate set to 6 lbs. I've been looking at different types of tuning software. I'm probably not gonna go the megasquirt route, I'm just going to run an "off the shelf" piggyback software like tunerpro or something like that. There's a guy here in central pa that has a shop with a dyno and tunes cars that I've been talking to also he's agreed to give me a hand with the tuning. I'm not claiming to be an expert at this, but I will continue to figure out these issues as I go. I appreciate the feedback you guys gave me and anymore advice or ideas you have will be greatly appreciated.
I was asking for more details because turboing a car is a lot more than a turbo, intercooler and injectors. And to help you with advise for your system, you need to know what you are working with. If you have a tuner, verify he can work with your car to retune the ecu before you bolt everything on. (if your going to him for final tuning this should be a "free" service.
Off the shelf is not worth its price, if you have a tuner who can access the factory computer, you do not need piggy back or any of that crap, as all the tuning can be done with the original ecu. You might need to exchange map sensors or something to a boost friendly one, but your tuner should know about that, and what to pick.
Its good your going with the tuner route, since you are not going with standalone. 6lbs is kind of aggressive without proper tuning. But it is very mild if you have a map accounting for it.
Thanks rabbit. I don't know what software this guy uses but I will shoot him an email and find out. A few months ago i was conversing with Vince at Trifecta about ecu remaps. I know 2010redrocket bought a downloadable remap off of him so i know that whatever software he uses is able to tune the factory ecu. I was just thinking if I bought the software then i would be familiar with it should I ever want to change something. But I think that you are right, its not worth the price and whatever software he is using, he will be more competent with and i'll still be learning the finer points of tuning.
Just an update. I fired the car up tonight with the turbo on it. Just the exhaust manifold and the turbo, no downpipe even, and i only had it running long enough to look and see the turbo spinning, but ya... it was a good feeling
I just wanted to sort of re-ask my original question about injectors. Does anyone know if any other injectors are the same shape as the ones out of the 1.6 ecotec that are larger? Or know of anyone who makes a larger injector? Thanks
My issue is that I can't find any (other than oem replacements) that are that style. I was just hoping that maybe someone bought a set that were the right style.
